Yeah seems to be a pretty common engine swap in oz.... I like the idea of the power of a commodore.. with the weight of a chevette.. somewhere around 900kg.... looks like it will be more than 200hp per tonne. I'm using the brakes from a VY crewman, so it should stop pretty well too, once I get that side of things sorted out. Diff is a shortened borg warner commodore item, Disc braked, four linked with adjustable top links.

Yammie . What car are those caliper originally from ? VY Crewman, but they should be the same as VT-VZ commodores. I'm not sure about earlier models, but they may fit too. you have a couple of options there WRT which discs you fit - there may be a factory rotor that fits over the factory hub. This wasn't much use to me as I have changed the diff to a commodore one anyway, so custom hubs had to be made to match the rear PCD

I actually managed to fit the engine under the bonnet today! No need for a scoop, so should be a bit of a sleeper. Moved the engine mounts up about an inch which allowed the motor to come down and moved the trans mount further up to tilt the nose of the motor down. Just have ot finish welding the mounts and then pull it all to bits again! A bit more rust to remove and then time for painting and wiring

Nice work - don't forget to swap the calipers over, though - you've got them mounted upside down in the pic's... What sort of rims are you looking for, with the new stud and PCD setup, it certainly opens up the choices

Yeah I know - the commodore has them mounted on the front, not the rear. I didn't bother looking at them other than to note the 'L' and 'R' which don't mean a lot when they are upside down!
I currently have a set of steel 15x6 commodore rims on her. I will probably look for some alloys after the body has been painted. I will probably stick with 15" - the smallest that fit over the brakes and as wide as possible that will fit without hitting at full lock. 3 series BMW wheels fit quite nicely - they are +42 offset for 6.5" and +47 for 7" They will still fit under the guards without flares too.

You could probably make a bit of coin from selling them as a conversion kit - for gemini's mainly in aussie...

Hoppers stoppers already make a kit in Oz for the gemini. apparently the holes in the calipers need to be slotted slightly for a gemini though - mine fitted straight on. I think there were some steel ones on trademe recently around the $500 mark The hubs were made for me as a favour, so I'm not sure it would be too ethical to get more made to sell on. I do have a solidworks drawing that I drew to have them made from in the future though if need be. Uses standard chevette bearings and commodore studs. as a final touch I used TWL trailer bearing caps!

Just ask your mate if he'd be interested in running off a few more sets - depending on how he made them, he may still have the program and it'd be down to sourcing the alloy.

I can pass on the drawing if need be Gordo - it's for a blank hub (without stud drillings) but is pretty much correct. it increases the front track by about 40mm, so would equate to running a Zero offset wheel, give or take a couple of mm

Turns out the Commodore Steelies I got were 15x6 and +52 offset They bring the rear tyres inside the guards and reduce the track gain on the front to about 50mm total. Front tyres are 195 50 15 and I can run a larger ratio on the rear. Currently have 205 50 15. Will post some pics later tonight
