I plan on adapting the hubs to suit the commodore stud pattern anyway, so will probably run factory commodore rotors if the diameter is right. as I plan on running flares, this should mean I don't have to worry about wierd offset wheels the only real issue is it appears to foul on the lower arm slightly, but I'll let you know when I get to that bit... suffice to say vy commodore has the same caliper bolt spacing as chevette... Just have some new, alloy, hubs machined up - that way they'd fit properly and you can have the mounting face where it's needed to suit the wheels you intend using, ie, if it's a Holden PCD, then the face should be where it correctly positions the wheel for the common offsets for the rim size you will be using. Then the rear axle can be narrowed to suit. Alternatively, you can do the reverse of other variation.

That's exactly what i have planned Gordo. probably steel over alloy though, as lumps of metal that size are easier to get hold of in steel

The start of the rust repairs.... so far have found rust in passenger floor, driver's inner guard (Obviously) and there is a wee bit in the usual place around the battery box area. Nothing I can't handle hopefully. Next step after the rust removal is blasting the paint (and bog) to see what condition it is in under the paint....

Hate to think what it'll cost retail for it now!

No... and yes.... there are some benefits to working for gov depts from time to time.... The vette has been repainted at some stage, and the 'new' paint is flaking off, the original paint appears to be sound underneath though, the only problem is, it's underneath... so off it will come... to be replaced with some ungodly hue...

Battery box area... new metal to left... Rust to right.... Washer bottle area, more rust evident, part finished repair panel sitting in place Closer look... Passenger floor... to be replaced! Passenger footwell..... Self explanatory really... Drivers floor, hasn't rusted through, but not too flash either Close up of battery box rust holes... Washer bottle area, close up with repair panel sitting in place, more work to do yet (It's not quite right!) The Vette as she is currently, almot completely stripped out!

Ok.. Update time... BOTH Floor pans have been replaced from the firewall back to the seat mounts. there are still a couple of patches to do around the inner seat mount on both sides, but I ran out of Argon the other night when I was welding the last floor patches in! Next step is removing all the glass, then blasting and priming. the battery box area is still as holey as nana's doileys, but I won't do anyhting there until after the engine has been trial fitted, and the brakes mounted as I don't know what shape it will be yet. I have a commodore booster and master cylinder to match the brakes, but won't know if it will fit until the engine is in.

So there has actually been work going on in the background.... I have hubs being machined up at the moment for the front brake fitment - 12" rotors with twin pot calipers. Diff has been shortened and mocked up in the car with a four link and standard coils at this stage. Motor has been dropped in place in order to gauge where it will sit. Will try to sort out engine and gearbox mounts over the next couple of weeks

Yeah seems to be a pretty common engine swap in oz.... I like the idea of the power of a commodore.. with the weight of a chevette.. somewhere around 900kg.... looks like it will be more than 200hp per tonne. I'm using the brakes from a VY crewman, so it should stop pretty well too, once I get that side of things sorted out. Diff is a shortened borg warner commodore item, Disc braked, four linked with adjustable top links.
