wire wheel... I'm gana buzz paint off my spare gem bonnet for my rusty wag, gana rat it out and get it complete and running to make it more appealing to sell... hope someone rescues it. Otherqwise EURON8 off oldschool wants to turn it into a burnout car to take to burnout comps, no springs just a solid mounted V6 with 5spd he has laying about... rat theme will suit this also so will start playing with the car either way.

I have a rusty bonnet that you should put on this. It has "non-operational" painted across it. Might be fitting my one has a few spots along the front so i wasnt too worried about striping it back. i have a few stencils planned- a slippery when wet sign, and i may copy a car i saw a while ago "rust is lighter than carbon fiber" is there anything i can spray over it to stop it rusting into nothingness? i dont want to clear coat it because it will get shiny, although clear over bare metal would look good also i pulled the waterpump off and it doesnt look too bad, the car gets to about the 3rd line on the gauge, i havent had it get any higher but i have no doubt it would if i let it. i flushed out the engine and it was all orange and rusty with no sign of coolant, even tho the radiator is full of coolant... plus the oil light flickers on at low rpm when its hot...

Theres a special type of metal infused paint that gives you the 'rusty' look without there actually being any rust, however to get the two paints needed it will cost about $200.

would take ages to rust away wouldn't it? Also you can buy matt clear coat in spray bombs... the brand dad used to stock the shiny was called Polyurethane and the matt was CLEAR PLASTIC or something like that.... think that was Spraykote brand. I find if using spray bombs buy quality, cheap stuff gets bitten hard by the UV from the sun... the yellow on my red wag bonnet is fecked and was cheapie crud... wipe finger across it when its wet (raining) and your finger gets yellow... dont care as that bonnet was only ever a temporary measure... desperately need to drop some cash on that car, not a good look for business! Go to ripco and check out varieties of clear paints, that ought to slow the rust down. My ratwag will be au naturale but not keeping it so dont care that much... plus have a few bonnets lying around anyway.

sorted a few issues today. firstly im not even sure if my car IS overheating. i think my gauge has issues. ive got a laser temp sensor to check it out with. secondly the oilcap had a rag over it to make it fit due to the stuffed seal. problem is the cap is where the crank vents so it was venting out of any hole it could.
im just gona put this out there- anyone want to swap a wag for a hatch? i want to get into rallying in a vette and i wont do it in the wagon.

got a full chevette exhaust off tardme for 40 bucks, new mufflers and all. i hate the straight through pipe that is on it now it gos below the diff and hangs about an inch off the ground, its embarrassing...
roofrack is on, the clamps are ugly and its too easy to steal so i need to create my own for peace of mind in south auckland.
the oil light comes on at low RPM when the engine warms up so ill get some thicker oil and up the idle a bit. will need a new 1256 or get my A into G saving for a conversion.
aand its not overheating, with the thermostat in the gauge gos over to the red, and its still only 80 degrees or so... i also noticed that $40 (>20l) gas took my fuel gauge from E to almost full... so im thinking the reference voltage for the gauges is too high. thats only in theory- i dont know how chevettes are wired yet. so any info on that would be great.

im looking for a 1256 to replace the one in the wag. ive decided to keep stock and just tidy it up for a while and spend money on a hatch when i get one.
im looking for a hatch =) cheep. reasonably rustless. rego atleast on hold. and im looking for info on 2.3 slants. how hard are they to fit, info on carbs v injected etc. also info on HSR setups. 5link rear? what diffs they ran etc.

sweeeet, good plan!
Derek aka opelmantagsi was saying he had a Manta diff which if I remember right he also said is what is used in the HS Chevettes... PM him, bulldog will also know lots of what you want to know along with gordo... Also Craigs mate Tony likely has 1256 stuff, (and yet more HS/HSR knowledge/4 link diff skills) he has/had a few bodies and the stock engines wouldnt be a lot of use to a chap like him... unless he wanted something to moor his boat from.
