I wanted that coupe.... chch was too much of a bastid to make it worthwhile... it didnt come with any spare guards did it?
As for power easiest conversion is a 2Litre upgrade, bolts straight on in, engine actually looks 99% the same, 5spd box may have different spline but if you score a driveshaft too then no worries, the G200z is an EFI engine but you can also bolt the inlet manifold/carb from your existing set up straight on there. This is a conversion even the freshest new comer can attempt, literally pretty much the same as swapping another G161z in there, just put it in the same way the old one came out.
Failing that if you wanna drop some coins on it look for inspiration in the members projects section or visit ozgemini.com.au some very nice cars on there... I still dream of doing some mean convo... advice stick to one project, 5 at once gets you nowhere!

lol no not the one with 2 project cars. and no to spare guards mate of mines a panel beater and he's doin the guard and the boot for me on da cheep. (boot had a ding in it) is the 2L a g180? i know the g200z works but bloody hard to get. but yea would a g180 work? also what sort of basic stuff can i do to increase performance? i know free flow ins and outs. but how would i find freeflow exhaust that would fit? and would a turbo work? thanks

g161=1.6L (1.5 something to be exact) g180=1.8L g200=2L
W=DOHC Z=SOHC
as for a turbo i wouldnt bother unless youre going efi. twin carbs with a bigger exhaust would be your best bet as far as money/performance etc.

Hey Ben, Im in Chch too, if you want a chat I can help with most stuff... g200z's I think are easier to find than a g180z - Isuzu Troopers, and Rodeo's have them ..
Flows can be had cheaply from australia 2nd hand - postage is SFA..

What year? on the g200z's that is. or do all troopers and rodeo have them? also it looks like the metal body panel under the guards has rusted through. any ideas on howmuch it would be to get this cut out and rewelded?

also piazza.
rust removal will cost anywhere from a box of beers to thousands of dollars. Get quotes from a few different panel beaters and go from there.
/ask around and find a friend of a friend who can weld and is keen for a cashy/box of beers

i have no idea about troopers but im pretty sure g200z will attach itself to your standard gemini gearbox. I think
i wouldnt worry so much about changing g161 to g200 for now. Not a huuuge improvement. Very similar engine. Concentrate on fixing rust. Get some sweet wheels and suspension and wack a webber, cam and extractors in/onto your g161. Will have a sweet car for not too much money
if you realy want a g200. Find a cheap and complete piazza. You can put the piazza brakes on your gemini and the diff aswel with abit of work

yeah g200z is not an awesome engine. its a bit sleepy tbh and is pretty gutless for a 2L. youre better off tweaking the 1600 ie skim/cam grind/fly wheel/extractors/better carbs etc.
