So I dont know if you guys have been following my post on OzGemini but had some revelations yesterday.
I took my cam to Franklin Cams in Pukekohe to get the specs on it and the dude took one look at it and was like "you aint running that in a turbo engine." It seems that it was just a high performance n/a cam, so might be up for sale soon for someone building a mean n/a g series. Anyway, I'm gonna take my head down and he's gonna look at the porting and maybe fitting 4ZE1 valves. We're gonna work out the combustion chamber size and also the compression ratio, and possibley do some porting. Then he's going to grind a cam to suit... so lucky I did that!!!

ARGH!!! More problems!!!
As you know the engine I have has 'shortened rods,' now it seems that they are too short. The piston sits 5mm below the deck at TDC giving 28cc of chamber. GemRacing on OzGemini says that I will have to be careful with pistons this low becuase of concerns of detonation.
Although, I'm happy to say that the block has had a 120thou overbore to 85mm (from 82) but this just makes things worse really, with: 85mm bore 75mm stroke 49cc combustion chambers 28cc dish = 6.2:1 compression ration FAAAAR TOO LOW!!!!! So I'm most probably going to look for an 1800/2000 crank so if anyone has one, let me know!!!

Thats not very good. And I'm a mega fan of high compression, low boost setups haha.
I know gemracing is the man when it comes to g series engines, but how on earth would a low compression ratio ever cause detonation? The lower the compression ratio the less prone the engine will be to detonation. I mean, its barely getting any compression at all. You could wack 20pounds in there and it will be sweet. I don't understand that. It would be sluggish, non-responsive and lacking power but I wouldn't have thought it would be prone to detonation.

Yeah, I'm not too sure where he was coming from...
Some how I want to get the compression up to at least 7.5:1, not sure how I'm going to do this tho. Need to find out the difference between the G161z and the G180z/200z cranks.

Are those rods you brought expensive? Seems like thats where the problem lyes, so it would be best to fix the problem, rather than dodgy something else to get by.

G161z has 75mm stroke and the g180z/200z have 82mm so thats 7mm diferance.

Changed my mind. Gonna get some stock G161z rods and shot peen them, keep them original length. Should keep the comp all good.
An 1800 crank will put my pistons 2mm over the deck!

Hmm I reckon you seriously talk to that Gemracing dude he knows when it comes to mixing and matching differant engine bits. Those pistons of yours due to the nissan symbol cast into them and the other casting marks all over them I would say they are cast not forged.

The thing is, I've seen that logo around in other things, not just nissan. It might be more common than thought. Maybe they are OEM forged types? Who knows, I'm sure I'll find out sure enough./
