does anybody know where to get steering wheel boss kits for the chevettes? I used a Toyota one I had laying around and it was perfect. Tight on the spline and you could even get it off again, which isn't often the case with aftermarket boss kits. I can't tell you what Toyota it was off, but talking to the guy who gave it to me he says Toyota's are quite generic. It's off an 80's one, most likely a Cressida.

if you use an inlet manifold gasket you can get a pretty good indication of how big you can actually go with the ports. A basic match port normally tidies up the airflow somewhat. Don't make it too smooth as carburetted engines generally work better with a slightly disturbed airflow as it helps the fuel/air mixture to blend.

Unless you weld the inlet manifold at the port to add material for enlarging the outlet, there is little benefit except around the stem boss and, if you have access to the cutting gear, narrowing and moving the seat nearer the edge of the valves. You may also be able to find a short bell for a 1 1/2" SU carb to aid the flow into the carb'.

yep i have heard matching the ports helps alot as it gets rid of restrictive ridges. i personally dont see alot of benifit drilling out the inlet side on the head as it looks like its well set out as it is but exhaust could possibly benifet a bit, I am looking for a set of flows/ extractors if any1 has some spare as every small bit helps

Don't forget the inlets are siamesed (I assume we're still on about the 1256 vauxhall engine) and you also need to consider that for part of the intake stroke, when the adjacent cylinders are partly open and partly closed, they're both drawing on the same port. The other thing to bear in mind is that the head was originally designed for a 1059cc engine that operated at lower rpm and, even assuming the porting was refined*, they are not conducive to power.
have you checked out my early post on some easy reworking you can do for significant improvements and some basic tips?
*I've seen an HC head that had much larger ports, especially around the guide boss, than the Chevette heads - that would make a good start point. unfortunately, it wasn't on one of my engines.

Plan now is to try squeeze a few more ponys out. Im going to mouny a 1.75" su carb to the std manifold as they are easy to tune and from past experience work well. I would go with a webber but dont have tuning specs or the money to get it tuned
