I think G161Z's are alright, but it does depend what you want. The car won't be a rocket ship, but it will get up hills and do everything it needs to do well enough. Actually, compared to a 1256 it probably will be a rocket ship! Especially with a 5 speed behind it.
But yeah I mean compared to a modern engine or anything with bigger capacity etc, a G161 doesn't really compete.

shweet, its steal, took it off, gave it a good beating with the trusty hammer ;D looking bit better shaped for the stearing rack, quite pleased actually. just need to know how much i can lower the rack without compromising stearing, guessing aslong as i keep the toe the same by adjusting the arms it shouldnt matter and il extend the column (possibly convert to uni joints) then shel b sweet

Carefull going lower with the rack, because as you lower the car the steering arm angles will be getting further away from parrallel with the control arms. In Aus the cars are generally quite high in ride height, so they probably haven't realised how much moving the rack can affect a low car. Also with bashing your sump, make sure where you have altered is far away from the pickup!

And it still has crank/conrod clearance. Moving the rack is something that shouldn't be treated lightly, may need lifting/dropping the steering arm for correcting the geometry.
