you still stoked with the choice? my missus wants a retarded small dog, a pug cross or something..
Had a GF with a Doberman pregnant dog (not pregnant, just female!)- VERY smart, fit and hard to keep up with, had friends with rotties, they were very friendly and laid back dogs, but a bit hard on the furniture as they were HUGE!

Some more nice dogs posted, but if I was looking for another animal it'll be a Maine Coon cat - generally regarded as being as smart as dogs, they like water - and are usually 20-25 lbs full grown - but some fatties have been more than 40 lbs.
