i agree with huntaway, beautiful dog. also huntaway bordercollie X is beautifuler and quieter. only thing about these dogs is because they are farm dogs they need ALOT of excercise. my border collie and my uncles huntaway followed us about 40k's on dirtbikes AND they kept up most of the way. So make sure you'll be able to excercise it regularily. and young cat+puppy should be brilliant. its good to have the cat slightly older that the dog as the dogs tends to accept that the cat is "boss." anyway best of luck whatever you choose

cheers for advice guys. Is all very handy as i've never ever 'owned' a dog and neither has my gf dont mind running dog aye. I want to get back into competitive running so having an energetic dog will be handy farm styles dogs dont mind living(sleeping) outside aye? i have fairly large fences, just need to fix/replace the driveway gate as it is unservicable at the moment... i have a large-ish under cover spa pool / bbq area (minus spa pool and bbq lol). Might roll out to the rubish dump this weekend and grab some free wood to build a kennel out of.. right now i need to ring landlord or do you reckon i should just get a dog and be like "hey look i have a dog now!!". Thats what i did when i got the cat haha. Only problem is they do a house inspection every 3 months, the bastards.

Just get it and roll in the office and show him/her... if you have been a good tenant up till now they wont be bothered kicking you out, finding good tenants is too much like hard work! (no guarantee on that statement )

I think you should run it by them first. It's a hell of a lot better than being asked to find a new house in a few months. Getting a dog like that, I would be inclined to get a proper style farm dog cage, because it will be much easier to keep the section tidy and keep the dog under control, especially while you are at work etc. The dog won't mind because you will let it out to run around each night, and take it for a decent run daily too. Something like this www.afencecompany.com/dog%20kennel%202%5B1%5D.jpglol but not that epic Actually thinking about it, your girlfriend will probably want it to be a house dog and sleep in side etc if she's naything like mine, so that idea probably won't work. I'm just seen dogs dig holes everywhere, sh it everywhere jump fences etc. Obviously it will be fine if its trained well, but I grew up will collies and thats how we always kept them and they seemed stoked all the time.

lol yeh i should prob ask landlord...i did rent the place as 'no pets' but the owner lives in india and the house is a nutshole(mostly due to tight arse indian owner ) so i cant see why it would be an issue. I havn't been even one day late with the rent since we moved in 14 months ago not keen on that cage thing haha ...my undercover area has a gate thing (taller than me) and high fences, so i can lock that area off like a cage anyway. I was just thinking of building a small kennel with blanket etc so they dog would be warm at night. Duno..main reason for outside dog plan was that the landlords would be more keen to give the go ahead im pretty sure someone has set the section up for dogs in the past. small gaps/holes in fences/gates have been patched up with plywood etc

oh yeah, thats what I was pretty much getting at with the kennel thing, but I forgot what I was saying when I was looking for pictures. If you ask landlord about dog and say the area you will be keeping it, which sounds ideal, they'd be keener to let it slide, being that you sound like you have a plan and know what you are doing etc.
Previous owners of our house had dogs and the back lawn was pretty much mud when we bought it. Is now super lush grass everywhere. Just saying.

lol yous should see what horses did to our lawns... paddocks were sh it so let them into the house area (enormous lawn area) and it is so fuct its not funny... horses are gone to new grazing now, lawns will recover... eventually

yeh will have to convince dog not to dig holes etc:P
they munt a lawn so hardout if you tie them up. Do lawns for a few people with dogs. Always having mean battles with my lawnmower/weedeater. they will walk along beside me, barking at a lawnmower for like 30 minutes. Stupid jack russels i hate them

yeah small dogs are angry retards and big dogs eat too much, have to find a happy median and one that isn't too super keen on everything, all at once, all the time. stoked dogs are pretty cool though. makes a nice change from a cat thats always whinging

Oh other thing I just thought of is make sure you have a sweet car.
My sis had a forester, pretty much perfect for having a dog. About the only thing they are good for in fact. Her thoughtful husband went out and traded it in on a toyota camry/avensis thing, which is actually quite a cool car, but its a sedan - lol - and they have a boxer and 2 kids. I don't actually know what they do with the dog when they take the sedan, but I can't imagine its an ideal solution.
You don't want to plan everything around the dog you know, but just saying it does change things you can do. Everywhere you go, you have to take it if you plan on staying away more than 12 hours or so. Otherwise you have to drop it at parents/friends etc and you think they are going to take it for a run every day? Staying away for a holiday at the beach over new years might no longer be possible, things like that. Thats about the only reason I'd be reluctant to get a dog, I like independance. Our cat can get fukced if we want to go away. She can feed herself etc

haha i have a toyota liteace with no rear seat. Could fit like 10 dogs in it...and also ford KA which shagwag from os can confirm fits 5x cressida rims and tyres lol so should fit a dog ok as for holidays etc yeh i agree thats the worst thing about having a dog. But where theres a will theres a way...know plenty of people keen to house sit, theres rural family who have room for extra dogs, and if all else fails can always put it in one of those kennels/pet hotels will be fine
