got it sorted just needed to run a wire from the fusebox to the coil +ive [providing power when the keys in run position]. ignition wire goes straight to the g200 starter solenoid - chevette solenoid goes in the bin. everything else runs straight off the battery.
so shes basically a runner now just need to get the exhaust done [sometime this week hopefully] ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

nah running the gem coil with ballast resistor & yep chevette wiring is all around shthouse. will eventually put a whole new fuse box in there but for now it works. its gonna be funny driving to the exhaust shop with no muffler/no wof/no cert & reg on hold haha. been over a year since this car was legal so will be good to get it on the road again.

Your problem is probably because the Chevette uses two ignition feeds - the 'ignition on' goes to the coil through a resistance wire to the ballast coil, when cranking, there's a feed from the solinoid at full voltage, so the coil is effectively getting extra voltage. There's a chance the coil you've been trying to use was either a 12V coil, or a ballast one with an additional ballast resistance somewhere - so the coil was etting insufficient voltage. Alternatively, during the swap over, the conductor could have been damaged in the wire.

Agreed, Bosche is also a good upgrade.

early 90's mitsi alternators fit too with a bit of work - very similar to the hitachi ones

so these are the latest pics of the g200 in fully wired & working form was a nice wee cruise down to pitstop this morning to get the exhaust welded up. cars actually got some pull now! ;D brakes are spongy though so gotta sort that out plus rear main seals Barry Whiteed...and the repair i did on the radiator was a bit shabby so its leaking again...apart from that though oh yeah got some alfa carbs on the way too

Amazing how much difference the exhaust makes isn't it, when I put the worked motor in the wagon, I managed to get the same fuel consumption with the twin carbs and worked motor as I used to with the original motor

piazza master cylinder in [just needed to file out the bolt holes then bolts straight onto booster]. looks alot neater i think - hopefully better performance too. need a smaller thread on the 3rd brake line - no real drama though sterling brake & clutch make them on the spot for a few bucks. twin weber d/drafts on their way too - should look good

Sweet, thats a hole heap neater, Might do the bother to put one in the chevette at a later date! Got up to you nice and quick.
The twin down draught setup, that wouldnt be the manifold I brought into nz, but kept the carbs off?

so decided i might as well finish this car. first mission was get rid of all the rust - there was alot - then focus on all the other little bits & pieces that need doing right rear quarter heater hole ready to weld over this section was full of rust decided the nose cone was beyond salvation so on the hunt for a new one now. may just bolt it on though rather than spot weld cleaned up in here too - plenty of room for a decent sized radiator now could have been worse i suppose . just going to do as much prep work myself before i take it to a welder

wow... you went to town! how about Mr Lynch for a nose cone? Spose he probably likes to hoard for himself just in case (he would only ever need it if he didnt have it) good on ya, need to get my lazy butt into gear and finish something...anything. Took blue wag for burn just before... made me get that silly grin that driving a fun piece of kit like that gives you. Hows sedan?
