Whats PPG? I have been thinking about subscribing to Pratical Performance Car. That article looks pretty good too.

Cool thanks for that jay. I remember coming across those articles when I was deciding on engines. Thats one that made me realise that the ecotec wasn't such a bad engine after all. I did forget about it though, mainly because I was still after either engine.
SBD got back to me and they don't stock anything for the ecotec. Looks like I'll have to go with QED. Man they are expensive. High comp forgies and rods will have to wait for quite some time it seems.

Yeah it's a good mag for advice rather than in-depth tuning and modification like Classic Ford tends to be. There was another mag that came out in the UK around the same time, Retro Cars, which is dire by comparision.

I do like the ones that get really technical though. Thats kind of what I'm keen for. The ones that tell you what to do, to what degree and what you will get. It really helps when you are doing sh*t like this.
Ohwell.. I'll just do it and tell people how to afterwards ;D and hope like fucjk it works out alright.
Update time on project anyway: Stopped off at a wreckers today and what did I come across but an Opel Manta! Holly nuts, I had a look at the engine (which was still in, along with the diff) and low and behold the sump is perfect. I knew people used parts off these for the XE conversion but after a little bit of searching in vain for parts I gave up.
So I think I'll be able to get the sump, mounts and hopefully diff this friday and stick all that on. If it works out alright then its off to FCS for the head and I'll start getting the stainless plates made up for the manifolds.
Once that stuff is back we can get on with sticking it together for good and putting it in the hole. Then wiring and plumbing and its all go.
Awesome styles.

Holy Fcuk, you found a Manta over here??? Good score!! That should help things along big time. Thats what I thought. It was crack up. had no front suspension or bumpers and was on top of another car so I barely recognised it. It also had 'berlinetta' or something written on the side of it haha I actually saw what looked like a carina and went to see if it was IRS and 4age (which is was, but it was already stolen) when I saw the beast sitting up above me. Needless to say I'm pretty happy with it and I'll grab the diff, which is a straight bolt in to a chevette apparantly. If I decide not to go with it you can have it, but its looking like a pretty good upgrade for me at this stage.

I was going to say 'GIMME THE DIFF, GIMME THE DIFF' ;Dlol, but they are in the back of pretty much every repowered Chevette in the UK, so I reckon it would be a sweet upgrade for you.

Awesome sounds like progress is being made. I haven't heard crap from my engine builder. They probably haven't done anything!!!
Lets hope the sump fits!
I had a subscription to RetroCars until it closed down, was far superior to any magazine they ever sold in NZ. When it shut I was going to get one to PPC, but never got around to it.

Small update.
Got sump. It fit. Put engine in. It fit. Used manta mounts. They almost fit.
Spent tonight bashing tunnel and dummying up some mount spacers so we can use the standard manta mounts. Gunna make things abit easier/cheaper doing it this way I think. Also sussed out a real good way of making the gb xmember so the engineers hopefully gunna wack that together tomorrow.
Got told by the guy in charge that it probably won't be ready by the end of the month. Got fully fuked off at him and told him what was up in a nice way. He agreed that with some late nights and providing things go well it might be done haha. Fuk man I'm getting ultra nervous aye. I will be genuinely dissapointed if its not done in a month.
Bought a spare head and taking it to get rebuilt tomorrow. Also getting gasket set, cambelt and water pump tomorrow. I'm hurrying things along but hopefully everything will keep moving along at the right speed.
Decided I'm sticking with standard diff too. Just going to weld spare diff head and see how things go.

Wow its almost looking like I might be able to get it done on time. Unfortunately the things I can’t do are killing me on funds big time. Driveshaft $400 Flywheel $300 Headers $800 Intake $400 Fuel System $500 Head Rebuild $450 Block Rebuild $800
$3650 = $4106 inc gst ;D
And that’s with it still not running. I need to wire it up, finish the fuel system, get filter, clutch, sort out the throttle cable, sort the rear turrets out and tidy up any other little lose ends I find on the way.
The tension/anticipation is killing me but pretty cool at the same time. Its going to make it so awesome if I actually manage to get it going for OS Nats.
