so far, i'm getting panels beaten, have to find out about rust cut and weld. i have a quote for a rebore and also a head grind?? needs a radio, carpet, and to go faster i want to get some free flows but dont really know what to look for. umm with engine performance chris suggested a "long block" anyone care to elaborate? what parts is this exactly, replacing or refurbishing. that sort of thing. also im gunna be pulling the engine out to get it rebored, and the engine bay is pretty grotty, i think sand blasting is in order? where abouts could i get that done and at what sort of cost. oh, and how do i post photos

youre definitely on the right track there mate. you need to upload via photobucket website. then use the IMG file on here. you can bore out the 1600 block to 1800 then use g180 crankshaft/pistons etc. its more common over in oz as the parts are a bit easier to come by. unless youre cashed up i wouldnt worry about that though. although if youre wanting to go turbo/efi etc in the future its worth checking out.

How much are you planning to spend on this engine? Extractors are getting harder to come by but you can get them.
A long block is just an engine that still has all the bits on it like manifolds and stuff, a short block is just the block and head.
If I were you and didn't want to spend too much cash, I would get the G200 from Andrew, find some extractors, use a 32/36 carby, maybe shave the head a bit and get a cam regrind and it wilil go pretty well. Much better than standard anyway.

I'm pretty sure an engine is everything. Long block is the block and head but minus ancilleries and intake/exhaust manifolds. Short block is the block only, but complete with all bottom end rotating assembly.

Oh, hrm... ok then! Either way. Buy that G200, you can use the G161 bits on it.

Flicj thru everyone elses projects and have a perve/read and go from there... most will probably say how much things have cost them (whether its a $ figure or barry white this was expensive type comment...) You also have to remember if you change things in an obvious way you won't be able to get a WOF without a Cert... A mate failed his WOF on his Gemi sedan the other day after adding a carbie turbo set up to it... (not a member he works next door to ?Troy) he seemed surprised... I wasn't. I'm hoping to sneak my Chevini thru without cert for at least the 1st WOF mainly due to the convo not being 100% complete... want to downgrade suspension and get seats and rims on the cert but can't quite afford...

An Isuzu engine in a Vauxhall is a different story to a large Isuzu engine of the same series into an Isuzu. Technically you would need a cert to go from 1600 cc to 2000 cc because of the capacity increase alone, but to be perfectly honest I would do it and be surprised/gutted when I didn't get a wof, without cert.
The fact that its a bolt in conversion also means that getting a cert will be very straight forward and only require a driveshaft hoop because of the extra power. Chuck on a couple of side drafts (or injection), a cam and extractors and you would have a quick little car.

only thing to remember with tricking the wof man when you dont have a cert is that your insurance may become void if they pick it up after an accident.
possibly,
iduno.
but yeh

what is this insurance thing you speak of? I don't expect to get a WOF but for $30 will give it a whirl.

g200 has more bottom end but doesnt rev as hard. higher top speed but slow off the line. depends what youre after mate and how much you wanna spend.
