simplest answer is the best one if it works , you should be able to set it close just by doing it tdc when the motors off by lining up number one on the dizzy cap with the rotor, sounds retarded is it backfiring any

Definatly sounds retarded I reckon aswell how does its start? does it need heaps of cranking with quite abit of throttle that would suggest timming been to retarded. Just chuck a light over it and see anyway.

had a quick play with the gem today. discoverd that the o2 sensor was "crimped" with a pair of long nose pliers so the wire pulled strate out. but dont get excited. i had a play and (based on generic "how o2 sensors should work" knowledge) its doing SFA... leaving it idoling rich it should change the revs etc and compensate yes? > well it doesnt. thoughts?

got the vette up and running tonight. well almost, just need to finish the service- oil, coolant etc. attacked the engine with engine degreaser. just sprayed it all over and watched the krud disapare. decided to check the spare tyre to see what its like.. no exaduration, a full 10cm of stagnant nutsy water siting under it. nuts! got out the flatblade again, popd out all the bungs and ripd up all the insulation, all good. next on the list after i finish the service will be to get the angle grinder (with wire brush) out and strip the floors back to bare metal and primer the nuts outa them. then (because ive discovered theres so much room under there) i want to make up a new false floor and stick in a decent sound system. guess i better get some new rubbers in first...
and aafter its running all sweet the gem will be coming home so i can work on it in weekends (will be puting the rego on hold this weekend.. sad moment.)

anyone else done this? - pulld off my kick panels and my first thought was "wholy shiit my chevette is a drug mule" closely followd by "aw dam its just a random bag ov wooly insulation shiz stufd behind the panel" haha
now on to the serious stuff- vette fuel tank needs to come out, i popd out the bungs from under it and could have gone inside to watch some tv while i waited for the water to stop pooring out =s juust like the wheel well. lucky for me the well side was rust free so the tank side SHOULD be aswell. but just to be sure. any tips? if not im sure ill figure it out
as for that paint coming off above the LR wheel arch, thers a bit ov bog in the panel where someone has had a dent repaired, can see it from the inside ov the panel, after i tore out the whole interiour (got a bit keen on the rust search haha)
i have the old reciept so i might drop in to whereever did it and see if theyl re-paint it free for me =D worth a try with the recession going on and all.

C-tims rims look shweet and dont even rub with the fat ass tyres. cheers for them =D just a test fit, still on the 215s. am sourcing 195s. 2 problems with the above pic... the GAP! and the fugly bog/paint issues im having on that panel =Z solution- lower it a bit and paint the mofo. me thinks black check the diference ^^ and THIS is my "race-spec" interiour. needs the hers seat for the weekend =s hopefully the poor little 1.3 will have enough torque to actually MOVE with them on. we shall see

ok a quick update- wheels are sorted, thanks C-Tim. i went with 185-65-13s to keep the rolling rate the same.
the plan- (hopefully this one will go smoother than the gem)
EXT- LED front park/day driving lights. complete LED rear, flushmount bars, all red shave it all off, badges, locks, mirror... central locking and boot popper. all new window seals. rear windows that dont fall out. lower it on standard lowering springs. paint- likley a matte black home job.
INT- bring the gauges into this century, RMP, voltage etc... Bucket seats and a sport steeringwheel. full polished sheet metal interior panels. new carpet (once its waterproof) battery into the boot wheelwell with room for an amp later. ENG- likley rebuild the 161 i have in the shed. camgrind, headwork, balance, lighter fly, full exhaust, carby. maybe a celica 5speed. piazza (or similar) LSD with disks.
most of this will hapen AFTER i sort out the gemini...

an update- got the car to what im calling "pre-painted" the colour is on but only spraycans. im going to gradually sort the bodywork, weld up the holes and sort the lighting. when bodywork is complete ill sand it down and redo it with the gun, then im gona be after a pinstriper. as for engine, a nice lumpy 161 and 5speed is the go but i have too many projects sooo... gemini is coming home on sat- if i cant sort it with timing or anything else i can think ov- a carb will be goin on and she will be on trademe listed with everything needed to convert it to injected haha. ither way im selling it- going to buy a nice reliable japper to drive while i work on the vette
