Above is right. Bog is a porous material so it absorbs moisture. You will need to first apply a good etch primer to stop it from doing that. Also, I had a car that had virtually the same rust fix done and it really was terrible. It was only for parts but it looked mint to begin with and once I begun leaving it outside the moisture slowly started to get into the bog and eventually the whole piece fell off. To me its just abit too large of an area to be covering with bog at that thickness. I appreciate the fact that you are getting in there and getting the job done but if it were me, I would be looking for a new door. Pitty you are not nearer to me because I have one you could probably have for free. i hear ya, dosnt really bother me tho because im not planning on driving this car for a long time, could always put a new door on it later on, its guna die pretty soon i think keeps blody overheating and killing the engine, rings are prob pretty Barry Whiteed now has done it about 5-6 times iv replaced the radiator(costed me blody $330 to re-core it because they dont make new ones..) put a new thermostat in it(took it out recently after the latest overheating and drilled some holes in it) it might just be a crap thermostat sticking? or water leaking somewhere? not leaking outside tho or could be leaking into the cylinders? because after it has overheated i poor some more water in it and drive off and its perfect, then after that i check the radiator water level each day for like a week, dosnt loose any so stop checking each day then all of a sudden it does it. im pretty keen to get some cheep as jap car with air condictioning, fuel injection, radio, heated rear window that works and all those fancy electric stuff kinda sucks driving around 45km a day to work on these cold as days without all of the above VERY good chance it's a corroded water pump housing - there's only a thin section between the two parts of the body and if it's holed the water gets pumped around without actually getting to the radiator. Good time to check it has the brass coolant pipe still in the head as without it the water doesn't get directed to the valve areas and you can get cracked heads and pinking due to localised overheating of the combustion chamber.

removed the 308 from my commodore with my dad to fix the rear main seal is leaking hardout, tweak the exhaust(is rubbing on the stearing rack), also will be doing little upgrade to it, a 500-600cmf holly carb(other one was only borrowed) electronic ignition with a amplifier and rev limiter, twin electric radiator fans(previously mechanical fan) a mini starter motor to stop it rubbing on the headers, also putting some new rims, tyres on it, new front seats(ones in it are stuffed and u lean on an angle while driving) also a rev guage, installing line lock and a head unit, speaker, amp then get a cert for the gearbox then should be on the road! we also removed the 2.3 slant from my dads chevette so he can get started on putting the 350chevy in it also got my full licence on friday! went crusing at night in the blue chevette with 5people in it, god it got low lol also with the overheating problem with the blue chevette drilling the holes in the thermostat, it hasnt overheating since, it does take longer to heatup tho lol, so the new thermostat i put in it must of been sticking..

been a little progress on my dads 350chevy chevette test fitted the engine, gearbox, going to need to modify the tunnel a little bit just widen it a little bit at the bottom and modify around the bellhousing, make a new sump for it and modify the steering, also going to have a engine plate across the front instead of engine mounts to give more room for the headers had the whole engine striped down cleaned, testing, found there was a crack in the valley of the block near the lifters, it had been chem wielded in the past but still wont be strong enough for drag racing so just using that block as a dummy now and my dad got a new 350chevy 010 block which has 4bolt mains factory, and is still factory bore size also got my commie all certed, warrented still got lots to do to it still factory springs in front and lovell super lows in rear still factory shocks

840kg is about right* - not as light as some may think - especially compared to Jap cars of the period.
*Got the 'official' figure somewhere in the manual.

I think thats pretty light. Geminis are much heavier.
My Chevette was 970kg in its current form with a few engine parts in the back seat and me still sitting in the front seat and I weigh about 80kg so I'm pretty happy with that. I should weigh it again at some stage.

Love your Commie aye... you should get a white TG sedo and make a mini me daily driver version just for lols... Thought of maybe getting a VK bumper chopped up and plastic welded to fit a Gemini after parking my green wag next to my cuzzies VK wag... Would look bad! (either way good bad or bad bad, would really need to see it done...)

sooooo very long time since update, well i now have 1 commodore, 2 chevettes not road worthy and in peices.... lol bought my white chevette back off dad... i couldnt let him turn such a nice classic car into a drag racing car which would be stripped out, cage, ect. which will ruin it, have just got the quick rack from yoeddynz so going to install that, then turret the rear end.. then get the car back on the road with maybe a 4age? or what do you recommend?

Could be interested in the radiator. Depends how much to get it down to Chch. Just wondering what else you have - any good slant 4 engines or bits? Whats the body and running gear like on the blue car - is it just standard? Really enjoyed reading your discussion thread. Im planning to convert one of my chevettes into 2.3, but keen to find out the pitfalls etc. Cheers

Also keen to hear how the chrome trim comes off from around the side windows. I see when you resprayed your blue car you managed to take the trim off. What holds it on, and is it easy to take it off and put back on without stuffing it? Ive got some along the sills too. Retro

i wouldnt reccomend using that radiator if your going to a 2.3 as it will be to small for it, sorry sold off all my 2.3 parts awhile ago so have nothing at all left, blue cars body is pretty rough, 3 quite major crash damages for being a paddock basher, rear right quater panal, drivers door, major front damage, engine had only done around 120,000ks but had been driven pretty hard in the paddock haha, and fan belt was off when i started so who knows how long its been like that... only major pitfulls of the 2.3 was starting, reccomend getting a aftermarket starter motor, and other problem was oil pressure, takes a really long time to get pressure on starting.. even upto 10+ seconds, few ways to get past that though, gordo on here knows alot about the slant 4, other than that it was a awesome engine and very retro =) and the chrome trim is only held on by plastic clips, get something under the trim and pop it off gently, try not to brake any clips as i couldnt find a source for anything like it! and had to leave a couple out that i broke...

that chassis welding looks like a great idea, my vette gets water sitting in the join between the chassis and the body and it had rusted through on both sides.
