Not sure if that sort of thing was a factor, but in the late seventies the followers were replaced by slightly longer ones. At the time we thought it was due to wearing of the bore in the cam box. ahhh ok, that clears up a few things, the one i fked had longer followers then the original one i have, was wondering why that was ;D

bad news.... took head off today this is what i found the grooves in the pistons are not Really bad, not sure if im going to need new pistons and all the exhaust valves are bent. not really sure what i want to do now... fix up the chevette and sell? repower the chevette? or build up a 2.3?.. only reason i was thinking of selling was because to make these things fast u have to do nutsload, spend a nutsload and not many aftermarket manufactures for parts.. was thinking of getting like a vc commodore or HQ kingswood or mitsubishi starion or old school celica or s12 silvia, heaps of cars i want ;D

Piston damage seems pretty light - I'd put the other head, etc, on and leave it like that for a while. Nothing to stop you re-powering it with something else, anyway. How about a worked 13B, one of the lads up north had one in hes rally Chevette - went pretty well - just a shame about the sound - unless you like that sort of thing? Even a Toyota or Nissan 1600/2 litre would be pretty quick!

rotarys are pretty cool and stuff but i wouldnt own one, i might just get it checked over by a mechanic just to make sure coz i dont want to put everything back together again then find out iv fractured something else in my engine then have to strip it down again for a 3rd time, 2times in 2weeks is bad enough... do u know of a place which makes like small head gaskets for the 2.3? just so i can get a little more compression then the standard 7.8:1 lol.... or maybe i should just get the block/head shimed a bit while im taking it apart...

Depending how much you skim off, you may find the tensioner runs out of travel - back in the day there were two options - a special aftermarket tensioner pulley that was a larger diameter or having a sleeve machined up and pressed over the tensioner pulley.

would you be interested in buying the slant four out of my rally car? Now that I'm putting the redtop into my chevette I'm considering selling all my slant four stuff yet again. If I'm going slant 4 later it will be a lotus twin cam.

im sorry guys... i no longer own this chevette i now own a meaty v8 commodore ;D gave it a really good clan today, had been sitting outside for nearly a year, also needs a cert for the new gearbox, rego is on hold and needs a few small things for a warrent the front and rear group 3 bodykit/ bumpers are pretty rooted, faded, cracked so going to replace/remove them, add a bonnet scoop like this one engine is pretty standard but with holy carb, pacemaker extractors and a mild cam, gearbox is a B&M t350, a nice v8 diff but still just an open diff and needs alot of small things like door handle, window winder, side mirror, interior light, driver seat is on a lean lol and other small things, will also get a autometer guage set and make myself a new dash because standard ones are square and ugly and rev counter dosnt work properly because this usto be a 6cyl lol also looks at getting some new rims, im liking these ones ill still chuck up build pics of the white chevette of what my dad does to it, he wants to get it going for the next drag season, it should be a good tyre fryer lol, just going to be pretty basic standard 350chevy with some custom extractors, 2speed powerglide gearbox, line lock for burnouts =) and make up a small roll cage just to be safe being such a small wheelbase car, should be prety fast being such a light car

decided to repair my door on my blue chevette this is what it looked like, best pic i have of it,was to excited to start and forgot to take pics before done some mean as panal beating (had no idea what i was doing) was real hard to get into the corner so i cut a big hole on the inside and put in a big punch and started beating out the creases, tryed holding a peice of wood inside there and hitting that but didnt work so thats why it looks like a gave my car herpes my mean as setup ;D sanded the crap out of it, tryed a wire wheel, sand paper wheel, and some thing that was like a scotch pad all worked pretty average, took ages, have no idea how people can do whole engine bays! now meet Mr Bog sand then bog again then sand again looking pretty average still needs alot more sanding then more bog then more sanding and so on but i ran out time today and need the car to get to work so guna have to do bits of work here and there after work also going to look at putting the early model headlights into this from the orange chevette which is just going to be a parts car now seeing as my dads using my white chevette now, are the new,old headlights interchangable? or do i have to replace the whole front valance?

had a look at doing that to the Green Meeny, when I had problems sourcing a new headlight. IIRC, the main mounting points, etc, are there but the openings in the radiator frame bit are too small and will need to be opened up a bit - can't swear it's correct but seem to recall it was like that.

done some more work on the chevette 2day, more boging and sanding then decided to laydown some paint, just some random rattle can i had in the garage still not %100 happy with it, still want to make the door gap look a bit better, but cant make it perfectly flush because when it bent the door it pushed the door backwards aswell so dosnt close normally, and anyone know why u can still see the bogy texture behind it? do i neda laydown some primer ontop first?

im no expert but i believe its something to do with the bog absorbing the paint. so yes primer should fix it -feel free to correct me if im wrong =D
oh and have fun with the starter on your commy haha- droping the steering rack is the easyest way. or you could shave off the stupid little nob on the rack that stops it coming out as easy as it looks like it should

Above is right. Bog is a porous material so it absorbs moisture. You will need to first apply a good etch primer to stop it from doing that.
Also, I had a car that had virtually the same rust fix done and it really was terrible. It was only for parts but it looked mint to begin with and once I begun leaving it outside the moisture slowly started to get into the bog and eventually the whole piece fell off. To me its just abit too large of an area to be covering with bog at that thickness.
I appreciate the fact that you are getting in there and getting the job done but if it were me, I would be looking for a new door. Pitty you are not nearer to me because I have one you could probably have for free.

Pitty you are not nearer to me because I have one you could probably have for free. i hear ya, dosnt really bother me tho because im not planning on driving this car for a long time, could always put a new door on it later on, its guna die pretty soon i think keeps blody overheating and killing the engine, rings are prob pretty Barry Whiteed now has done it about 5-6 times iv replaced the radiator(costed me blody $330 to re-core it because they dont make new ones..) put a new thermostat in it(took it out recently after the latest overheating and drilled some holes in it) it might just be a crap thermostat sticking? or water leaking somewhere? not leaking outside tho or could be leaking into the cylinders? because after it has overheated i poor some more water in it and drive off and its perfect, then after that i check the radiator water level each day for like a week, dosnt loose any so stop checking each day then all of a sudden it does it. im pretty keen to get some cheep as jap car with air condictioning, fuel injection, radio, heated rear window that works and all those fancy electric stuff kinda sucks driving around 45km a day to work on these cold as days without all of the above
