Nice progress, but I'm confused - Calibra ECOTEC/1600? Calibra ECOTEC is a 2 litre, like Brad's - they had 5 different engine options, 4 different 2 litre fours and a 2.5 litre V6. Or is it two different cars, with a Isuzu in the 'Vette? The post about the 1600 was Jan 4th, the post about the ecotec is April 29. My guess is that plans have changed from a G161Z to an X20XEV ;D

^^^ What he said. Decided there was not much point with pissing around with a conversion to another old plonker when DOHC injected isnt toooo much harder.. Well, its alot harder but no worries.
Only problem is finding time around trying to do up a house, setup a garage, and play with a car.... or three!

Got under car and marked all areas where engine and gbox foul with a twink brush. Found a small amount of rust while I was there :/ Measured and cut the sump up last night and then welded a new peice in tonight. Tested it with oil and it has no leaks so will chuck back on tommorrow night and test clearances. Its going to be tight! Also replaced some of the crap torx bolts with cap screws/bolts. Pics:

Sump was no good as set engine bay way to high in bay and no clearance at top. So.. I cut sump up again and put a way larger step in it.. good now but a bit warped.
Have made 1 and a half engine mounts and will finish this week after work. They give 10mm clearance around crossmember and around 20mm to bonnet.
I also have obtained a VN commy flywheel and pressureplate which will work with standard x20xev starter. As Brad has said elsewhere it is heavy as hell but will serve as a starting point and is also cheap.
Loom is out of Calibra and ready for stripping back. Have given this to the old man in Rotorua to look over/strip/sort out.
Might get some photos this week.

I found this photo lying around in an dusty folder on our harddrive. Believe it or not, but that is my car actually driving.. not sitting in a garage. Dumb photo i know, but my point is that it was taken back in October 2008. That is how long the chevette has been off the road!!! Admitidly the plan for it has ultered slightly along the way - from replacing the 1200 with another 1200, to upgrading to a gem 1600, to its current state with a 2L Opal in it. But i'm sick of winter. Bring on summer road trips and actually driving our projects. I think this is a bit of inspiration to get nuts done. A certain house keeps getting priority. Not complaining as i get my new kitchen tomorrow But need to get motivated on the car front again.

Long time no update! So house is getting closer to finished and am in need of a break so have started working on the Chevette again, just once every week or so but still a start! Put engine and box back in cause couldn't remember where I left it sitting last. Turns out I had finished the mounting as all looks good; sump clearance, gbox nice and high, dshaft straight, oil filter clearing gemini sway bar, kinda tight around gbox at top of tunnel but not touching. Exhaust path looks like it wont be too bad although the nature of the underbody means it will sit relativly low. Starting passengers side and then crossing under the gbox xmember to drivers side. A small resonator should fit in the factory hump in the floor then down to the rear, under the diff & panhard rod, into a proper muff then out the back. Fuel line also looks to be no probs, running from rear passengers side, up tunnel, crossovers to drivers side ontop of gbox xmember which will seperate exhaust heat from fuel lines. Will use rivnuts and pclamps to clamp rubber fuel line up, yet to get in boot to see whats on back of tank in terms of return etc. Will be running a bosch pump in boot which is far too big but brand new and sitting around. Dshaft needs to be a slipper type as both gbox and diff are solid mounted, I need to find out where the dshaft loop needs to go for cert or if one is even required. Photos, excuse the smurf looking gbox mount, was what I had at hand. yes you will need a drive shaft loop mate. more info here lvvta.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=242suggest you also look a bit more into the gear box mount to the floor as there are some certification fish hooks in doing that as well heaps more info here www.lvvta.org.nz/documents.html#hctmalso info on fuel line materials and location in relation to exhaust pipe info on that site some where. I got a copy of the Hoby Car Manual, best thing I ever did Its going to be a sweet ride when its finished, I like it a lot, your gonna have one hell of a nice ride when its done, 2 door sedan very very cool indeed, keep going and look forward to the end result, will be well worth it I am sure.

Yeap went for a ride with Brad in Taupo years ago. Bit differant build here as just keeping engine stock as with heavy flywheel, stock intake, stock ECU, even exhaust manifold at this stage!
Corvette is a mates, waiting for the new heads to be finished at the shop then put back together for next season.
