Well this Might as well be my Project thread.. Picked the beauty up for the Pricely Sum of $125 with the Motor and Gearbox in the boot (power steer stz..), With the only brakes being the hand brake.... Towed it home, and it started raining, great fun with a hole in the Transtunnel beside your hand, and the drivers window not working... Rear brakes were smoking at one stop point during the journey, Windscreen wipers werent going , so me wiping the windscreen every minute / Leaning out of the window like a dog Came on Rohstyles, Air Shocks and I think some Cut down Piazza Rear Springs, sits quite nice. Put the rear shocks on properly, spent 1/2 a day tightening up the suspension parts, and re-fitting the brake Calipers and lines... f**ked around for about 1 hour getting the engine unstuck and out of the rear wheelwell. Went out to this farmers land, where a mates cousin had a Vauxhall Chevette (1256 4spd hatch with black stripe kit, Rohstyles) dumped, we were thinking it was with like 10 other cars, turned out theres probably about 1-2 thousand cars Scattered around... Seat and steering wheel nicked out of it, not a problem, will grab the race one's, no springs that currently, but hey I dont need those Going to spend 1 complete weekend stripping that of parts and various bolts we need, and then do the same with the Gemini. Then we should have about 10 Spare wheels, the gem's Engine/Gearbox and misc other parts sitting beside mates woodshed. Will Be putting in Various extra braces, and will model the rest of the cage off our Production saloon... Will get some proper pics up when I can.. www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Parts-Other-makes/Exterior/auction-85678961.htmSome things the previous owner has done brilliantly, others not so clever (mounts for the cage, flat on the firewall, should be on floor, same with the rear end... I think I will leave those mounts and add proper ones in also, so It should be rather stiff once completed..) As it was bought, made account for mate, and pwnt my brother(fully thought he was going to get it cheap) , doesnt know I have it yet.... Cheers,Chris

Hell yeah. Gunna be awesome. I want someone to do a hatch up properly! They can look so cool. The best I've seen in NZ is that red one on trademe. Just needs to be a tiny bit lower. Perhaps you're going to be the one to build an awesome hatch Chris? Or maybe Tim will beat ya to it ;D

There's a couple of badass hatchs around. Seen two done up to full HSR spec...i think one was genuine But any way this yellow one i saw a pukekohe was hardout as aye. Was kicking the arse of some seriously fast cars like rx7's and 240/60z's etc. 2.3 with all the gofast bits from Lotus, etc. The other one is that castrol one which was ripping up the BDA escorts in the Targa. I think thats an acual HS/HSR.

:PWho's Tim, or do you mean my Brother? 3SGE BEAMS (or maybe a Vectra motor...) (possibly the gearbox from it too, otherwise a 5spd Celica) and IRS (Quite keen on the whole IRS) What IRS do you mean? I'm not sure if its worth doing aye. Beams motor will be as awesome as the vectra engine I think. Both quite expensive conversions, but you can't beat insane twincam NA power in a chevette I think. Tim is crazytim. He's building a cool chevette hatch aswell.

Irs - Independant Rear Suspension Rofls you probably knew that Nah I am quite keen on the whole IRS layout and handling benefits, also saves a bit of weight IMO Im thinking of working on a Cruise Ship for 3-6+ Months anyway, so I'll come back with wads of cash (get paid in Foreign Currency, either US or Australian, and living expenses are all free, and paid quite tidily as well) Cheers,Chris

I have seen it done on a kadett c and on some escorts. It costs insane amounts and is very difficult to setup correctly in a car it was not meant for. Basically, you will get better results from 4 linking a live axle. The only real advantage is the awesomeness of being able to say you have IRS and the nice looking camber. I would probably consider it purely for those reasons haha. Know a couple of people who work on the cruise ships. Sounds good. Pretty hard work though, my cousins a chef and he works 18hr days when they have guests! (8 hrs with only crew on board)

Rofls, yea sounds about right, After working for awhile & Cruise ship I plan on changing Career's.... 9-5 for me please (Quite like the idea of being a welder Fabricator, as I had the most amount of fun ever making stuff when I did a course when I was still at school) Should've mentioned, my family is pretty much all petrol heads, couple of uncles race or have raced, along with my mum. One is a panel beater, currently a pit crew for a Super Saloon, another has still got his Super Saloon, and built our roll Cage for the olds Production saloon.. So I have a fair bit of experience and help to draw on / get them to do it for Bottle's of Bourbon Not saying I wouldnt get them to do it all, just they would have better experience and ideas of how to do it.. Cheers,Chris

Just let you all know, Swapped the diffs over in the weekend, towed the gemini derby car back, Rear wheel smoking to the days, exhaust dragging on the ground, no shocks...
Took the diff, driveshaft, gearbox, clutch, clutch cable and Dizzy out of the gemini, put the chevette diff in, filled the gemini up with all the unwanted parts, slapped the diff in , abeit without springs (keeping them) towed it to a wreckers. Haha
Cheers,Chris

Just had a really bad thought... I took the 1600 Clutch & Pressure plate off, but I didnt keep the 1600 flywheel.
The 1600 had these wee locators (or nipples to some of you) on the flywheel, which the pressure plate is located to. Anyway the 2.0 DOHC is a Auto, which at a reasonable guess, means it wont have any locators on it... dammit. Can anyone confirm or deny this???
Also if so , might have to try and buy the flywheel from the wrecker we dumped it outside of, unless one of you lot have a spare one lying around...
Cheers,Chris

The nipples you speak of are called dowles . Anyway you are gunna need a flywheel because the auto's dont have one as such. They have a flexplate which the tourqe converter bolts to it also has the ring gear for the starter on it.

Alrighty Mrs Funt'maRunts
Update time (man I talk some nuts ^^)
Bought Another car of Trademe, 50/50 with Prozac, He's got the running gear, I've got the shell... Basically the 'new' one has a Fully compliable roll cage - the old one is hodge bodge job, never going to be legal.
Basically just going to Strip the 'old' one for parts and cut various peices out of it for some of you and a couple of others I know. Will then fill it up with crap sky high and either crush or take to the wreckers...
Zac may post some pictures up when he gets a chance.. Scored some random bits and pieces also, most I've given to Zac as they're no use to me..
Cheers,Chris

Some piccies of the days action. Was nice and stress free . Car is currently all tucked up inside the garage nice and warm. The phone is the best score ever. I definatly cant make it go, but it'll hang around just for nutss and giggles . The nissan a14 motor thats fitted to it (not very well i might add) is almost ready to jump out of its own accord, i just need 30 minutes of no rain and some light and it'll be done, then the shell is all Chris' . The cage in this hatch looks pretty neat, follows all the usual conventions. Man the body is stiff with it in there, can really notice it when its up on jack-stands, etc. The body its pretty tidy in most respects, I've pinched the nice bumpers for my wagon. Havent found any rust yet! Bottom of the front guards looks damn tidy, im quite jelous. Better come rescue it from my garage Chris or they might end up on my wagon! (kidding )
