Quick question, what are the basic laws like around seat belts? didnt realise chevettes had no rear seatbelts until about an hour ago when i took some mates for a drive and they pointed it out. I remember someone telling me a while ago that if your cars older than a certain age and it wasnt equipped with seatbelts its all legit. just curious anyway

Really? All mine have had them? - My oldest was a 77 though... Its possible yours may have not been fitted with them - but it is a GL isnt it? (ie not the poverty spec..)

exactly, you just got a WOF. I used to put the kids in their and joke with them telling them that this was how it was back in the day. Blew their minds. I believe the rule is if your car came out nz new without them you don't need them. Could be wrong. Now much like someone stated here I checked if there were mounting points and there aren't any up top even tho there is a hole. Tony suggested we could put something in pretty easy but I decided not to worry. I have all the belts etc to install

Pre December 1978 vehicles are not required to have rear seatbelts. Many do however, and if they do have them they must comply with the WOF standards - i.e. no cuts fading etc so if your car is pre 78 then you are fine.

My gems never had them, and if you want to put them in you have to get it certified which is a huge pain in the ass.
