Ok so im looking at getting some rims for the beast, im not the smartest when it comes to offsets and what not and dont wana have to go and buy a set of spacers because i Barry Whiteed up on getting the correct offset having the wheels rubbing on the strut (like on my mirage ) so can u guys help me out. am looking at these two.. www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=291424059I'd have to wait awhile until i can afford tyres but chur, am a fan of modgies. and www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=291886300id polish the lip and either paint the centre gold/black or a dark grey. would either of these fit accordingly? chur

Sh*t those are cool. They should fit. Remember, you are playing with low wheel widths so offset tolerance doesn't matter too much. Front wheel drives are a whole different story because the wheel hubs are much further out. The other thing about the Mirage that doesn't matter with the Chevette is the mcpherson strut setup. That leaves a bit strut and spring cup to get in the way of the wheel, where as the Chevette double wishbone setup means theres only the shock to get in the way, which isn't too bad. I'm had 7 inch +40 on my car before and it was fine, so I can guaranty that the Mahls atleast will fit. I also have 7 inch +26 on my car at the moment and its very low and they are fine. And my 8 inch +5 steels nearly fit.

You're going to have to have a good think about the wheel size, and particularely width, that you want to run. Other important factor is the front suspension droop - how far the suspension extends when it's jacked up. With the stock length damper, you'll get light to medium rubbing with a 6" 40ET rim - 196s need 5mm spacers. If you're running additional negative there will be more interference, That said, if you use short dampers, interference will be much less of a problem, as it's only at the lowest positions that it's a real issue - that's why Brad can run 7" at 40ET - obviously the tyre section width also has an affect!
If you have the time and money, I wouldn't start looking for specific rims until you have the suspension you want sorted out. Then you can work out clearances - for reference, the stock Chevette wheel is 5" with a 37mm offset.

above ^ 14x6, 4x100, 38 offset. They look the part on a mk1 golf. I think they'd look great on a Shove too. I have something quite similar that I will probably use soon. edit: damn I tried to host the images because you have to login to view but its not working. Ohwell..
