Commodores never came with wishbone front ends, only mcpherson strut and because of this the coil diameter is quite large. You'd probably be able to see the difference between the two even with your springs still in the car (just turn it to hard lock).
Also, I'd be concerned about how much lower a Gem/Shove will sit with Commodore springs in the rear as these will likely be a much firmer spring rate.

bugger. yeah im guessing wouldnt be a huge drop with those springs unless you cut them lol. may back out of the deal and just go with cutties for now. haha. should buy tyres for the wheels i bought first anyway. want this car on the road in time for summer Barry Whites sake!

If you really want some springs I have some dobi super lows for a Gemini. I want $150 for them as they are brand new, never been fitted, but atleast they will fit your car and are almost garaunteed to lower it to a suitable height. They should also be captive as they are progressive rate, but that can be easily solved with a cheap set of shocks.
As for the front, I really do recommend cutting them. It isn't dodgy at all as the wishbone setup holds the springs in firmly top in bottom and every t-car I have seen with cut springs has been captive (I know some aren't, but every one I have seen has been).
So, that will be a low car for $150 and you shouldn't have any trouble with cops or wofs, providing we don't get carried away with the ol' grinder.
Burntrubber also mentioned a nice cheap and easy fix for the panhard problem, just bending it to move the diff slightly. Saves spending big money on an adjustable one.
