More a case of selling some old Chev' bit's to a relation of someone working there, so they would make sure I got a good deal - well, I did spend a lot of money there for a while - later I got a 'green card', which entitles you to a discount. It seems to be 25-30%! Funny thing is work also has an account with them but they don't get a discount as they don't buy much from there.
As a general rule, I've found if you're nice to people, they'll be nice back - in this case it's saved me thousands over the last eight or ten years! Last set of tyres (5) for the Calibra were at cost with free fitting - $1040, IIRC, instead of close to $1500. Doesn't always work but often enough to make a difference!

ok i refurbed the carb and ran the timing again...it's still backfiring through the carb occasionally but runs much better. After reading all the manuals it would appear its way too lean also so I'll adjust the mixture screw tomorrow night. Anyone got a mixture screw tool? as it means taking the carb off again and using a screw driver

They're quite touchy on float levels as well. I've got the tool for the adjuster that's round with 6 slots in it, however, unless it's an emissions version, you should be able to turn it with your fingers. Don't forget to top up the dashpot. Points gap is very important, sometimes there's a little movement in the base plate, shaft or cam' and they'll misfire.

Man, when I was looking for a car there were none. Now since I've never had money, there have been heaps of coupes, and chevettes and sheezy. sucks,. And the free ones are way too rusty!

Thanks Gordo, are you around this arvo or after 5? I'd love to borrow the tool (it's the round one with 6 slots out of it looks like a castle type thing) I can do without it but it just takes a lot longer. I checked the points gap and the disti shaft bearings are still good. More testing last night proved my point when you put the choke on full it runs good so it's far too lean still.

Ok boys I'm serious now, I'm about to take photos and do the last hole in firewall to get warrant. I'm going to be selling this and the piazza diff that is ready to bolt in, the worked 2300 single cam and type 9 sierra box for $1500. If it goes to one of you guys I'll throw in the 14 inch black and silver alloys. This is a perfect project for someone I simply don't have the space or time to do this anytime soon. Plus this money will go towards a car trailer I desperately need for my race car.
