Just bought this , should get it within a month or so . . Kadett C on a P plate , a '76 . Bit rotten as you can see - needs a lot of welding , a pair of guards , a front panel , outer sills + arches , lower door skins and possibly a bonnet but I've either got or can get all of those bits. Still got a load of other spares from my '77 Kadett ( new guards/lights/new bumpers/interior bits/4 spoke Revos etc ) so the potential 'spares list' isn't that much which is a good thing - I best re-learn my welding skills .. Sooooo plans are - get it solid , get it low , de-clutter the tailgate, move the plate under the bumper , repaint in something pale ( blue or beige maybe ) , stick with 13's either Revos or wide rostyles , keep the rear seat down and use a cool weekend/camping/car show/parts hauler type of thing . Of course that may all change by next month .. ;D I'm thinking along these lines - with possibly a bit of this too So I was wondering how common these things are in NZ ? Do the later Tcar estates share any of the same bits ? I'm thinking possibly rear lights , side windows etc ? And have you any cool estate pics to share

We don't get the early model Gemini wagons in NZ, only the later models, TE, TF, TG. We also get Chevette estates. I'm pretty sure that all the side windows would be the same, maybe save the way the hinges work between Chevettes and Geminis.
I'm pretty sure the doors on the wagon are the same as the 2 door sedan. Diffs the same as hatch. Most other swappable things you'll know.
This looks like a neat project, bigger brother to your hatch!
I will have a wagon, one day!!!

They are the same from the doors back, all the sheetmetal from any T series Estate in Oz/NZ/UK is derived from Opel Stock. Read that somewhere... will dig it up in a minute, sure I typed article up on here somewhere... Soooooooo feckn jealous mate, not so much of the rust tho... All that rust and none around the sunroof!! Thats mad! The rear plate on one of my Gemini's was moved under bumper, ran chevette hatch bumper (think they all the same.) and cut a piece out of underside edge of bumper and mounted number plate lamp under bumper. The licence plate was mounted to two pieces of flat section steel bolted to the flat part under bumper, came out pretty tidy. The car was a painted shell when I got it and the licence plate mounting 'bumps' had already been shaved. Will have a quick hunt for that article too... look forward to progression pics on this one! Thanks for sharing!! ;D

TD GEMINI: (April 1978-October 1979)
The TD Gemini, launched in 1978, was a further facelift of the TX and TC models and included many upgrades and improvements as well as an increased model range. New for TD was RTS (Radial tuned suspension) as used on the bigger Holdens and the availability of 5 speed manual gearbox. Cosmetic changes included a new simpler grille, rectangular headlights, (round on basic models) and the rear number plate was moved above the bumper bar. New wheel trims were found on all models. The model variants added to the range were a two door station wagon and a panelvan and the two and four door SL/E. The station wagons and panelvans shared the same basic body which was developed in Australia by GM-H. It utilised the Japanese front sheet metal and dash while the doors and all rear panels were sourced from Opel in Germany. All major mechanical components were shared with the two and four door sedan models.

Thanks for the links + info guys , much appreciated
Like what you've done to the tailgate Tim , exactly what I wanna do to this one but I want to remove the lock and put a solenoid on it too - always thought it looks a bit lonely stuck up at the top all alone ;D
Nice idea with the number plate too ..and yeah , if a Chevette hatch bumper fits then all the better - I've got two new spares knocking around
Cheers

The square headlites your sporting on your estate come on the Holden TD model. Should be plenty of similar wagons in the ozgemini thread to inspire you.

Drivetrain plans? Im going to hazard a guess and say it involves that piazza straying around in the photos?
Liking the intention of the project, whats happening with the City?

Thanks for that link Tim , some good stuff in there - cheers
Cul8r - That Piazza you can see in the pics just happens to share unit space with the Kadett so no Isuzu engine swap planned !
I'm still keeping the City . I did start collecting a few parts for an engine conversion - 1.8 16v Ford Zetec engine , 5 speed Sierra box , Opel GT axle etc ... but I think I might keep the City as a 1.2 and do the conversion on this estate instead

All credit to you, matey, I'm always amazed at the British enthusiasm for tackling what I would regard as basket cases. Is it my imagination, or does some ot the underbonnet detailing look a bit Viva HC ish?

Yeah I'm sure we must sell more welding gear than any other country Gotta love the rain ;D To be honest , if I didn't have a pile of Kadett spares laying around then I would have perhaps thought twice about taking it on - it isn't exactly the best base for a project but once I've cut the rot out and welded it , replaced panels etc it'll be well on the way to looking decent. Yes the engine bays do look fairly similar to the Vivas , certainly the OHV engined ones
