yeah that's what got me. I know the first HS came out with a single cam 2.3 but is that any different to a standard 2.3 bedford with hit bits? Either way I rang him about buying the whole lot. 2.3 sounds like it's pretty hot as in he rekons it dynoed recently with 190hp at crank. I tell you, if i had $1300 i'd probably sign my name to the lot. I'm almost tempted to sell my mountain bike to get it. We're talking that motor plus 2 others with some bits missing, diff (albeit locked) complete with rear discs, 4 x shocks, w50 gearbox and a couple of w40s? inlet manifold with twin sidedraft dellortoes, exhaust headers......man, must get $1300 bucks from somewhere. Anyone want to buy a water cooled minimoto, valentino rossi blue with decals?

Not much low down but great between 3k5 and 7k+. Bloody heavy hunks of cast iron, though. All the HS/HSRs were twin cam, two different designs, though, perhaps that was what you were thinking?

I too was thinking the HS engine was only single cam. I guess I've probably just seen a couple of bedford powered HS replicas and assumed that was the HS engine. Is it the 2.3L lotus esprit engine that is an updated twincam version of the same engine?
Thats great power and peaky engines are great fun. A chevette with one of those in it would be very exciting. I would stay away from it though myself. I'm slightly against older engine designs not just because of the lack of technology but more so because of the weight. Some older engines are just so awesome that the weight doesn't matter and I would say a twincam HS/HSR engine would be one of those but I don't know if a worked bedford engine would be.
My car understeers abit and I've heard that kadetts, piazzas and even mantas are also prone for this. I guess its the one draw back of the control arm front end. Because of this the last thing I would want to do is put a large heavy cast motor in the front. Sure back in the 70's it made sense but not so much 30 years later with the technology we have available and at such a cheap price.

The Lotus 907 engine is all alloy ;D. IIRC, some components are interchangable with the Vauxhall/Bedford engine, with some fettling.

As far as I know, the 2.3 twin-cam is a Vauxhall developed unit and is actually reasonably different to the 2.2 slant twin cam that is found in the Lotus Sunbeam (which is what the Espirit engine is a development of).
