I was just reading the wikipedia entry for the chevette and came across this The New Zealand Chevette had a mechanical update unseen on the European models, when in 1979 it gained Holden-developed Radial Tuned Suspension. This resulted in the entire Chevette range being re-suspended on wider tyres, and tuned suspension, giving the car superior handling over its rivals. My car being a 78 presumably doesn't have it. Does anyone know how much difference RTS makes? Would it be worth fitting to my chevette? Is it just a straight bolt on replacement?

Pretty much, but don't just upgrade to RTS you might aswell upgrade beyond that.
To my knowledge RTS is just a front and rear sway bar and possibly uprated springs aswell.
What I would do is get some whiteline gemini sway bars etc and just do all normal uprating of the suspension to get it how you want it. You may need the RTS arms and diff to accomodate the sway bars but I seem to recall the earlier stuff still having alowance for sway bars for some reason.

Aaah, I thought mine looked pretty well set up at the back for a boggo production car. Being an RTS car it makes sense now.

Thats aussie terms but yeah, the tx was the first gemini right? I believe the RTS came out midway so some were RTS and some weren't. As far as I know all other gemini's were RTS but sedans don't get rear sway bars or something like that? I dunno.

Options Boe! Yea not to sure about the Sedan Gemini's - They tended to get all the better nuts as opposed to the wagons, Nicks Chevette Sedan '79 that he had had RTS.

I wouldn't have thought RTS would be an "option" as such?

Yea think so man , - Ie only available in the GL Spec Chevettes ..., Commodores got the similar nuts at the same time.

Oh yeah ofcourse, but thats not what I would consider as an option. lol. Plus the fact that every single chevette I've seen seems to be a GL. We had chuckles over it one time. I've since seen another in NZ that wasn't though.

did we ever get any of these chevettes in NZ? dunno what model it is? haha, if you look very closely it is exactly the same as the chevettes we are all driving, it just has a gay as fake wood cover over the old dash and a similar thing where the centre vents and speaker go. edit: Oh I assume you are talking about the dash differences?
