As some of you might have seen on Ozgemini ive been having some cooling /head issues. As B/r suggested it looks like my twins are out of tune but thats no biggie. Any way the g200 has been overheating excessivly. Even with no thermostat, it also has a near new water pump, so thats to possibilities gone. Where should i start? Ive thought about putting the 1600 head back on and giving it a flush, Provided it doesnt overheat too fast. Anybody got anyideas to get her going?
Thanks, Matt

I would say it's the carbs. You said it was shacking a little that to me(not seeing it)sounds like bad carb balance bad balace can cause over heating among other things, poor mixture will cause it also. In my experiance to lean at idle will cause it to warm up. Were the carbs making a slight putting sound when you tryed to rev it at all.

Yeah they were making a bit of a putting noise, But the thing is ive had the carb's on for a while on g200 head and it hasnt been an issue. Will the mixture really have such an effect on the temp? Especially seeing its only one pair of cylinders. Im thinking it might be somthing else as well? Matt

Ok well if the carbs are out of balance two cylinders will try to sorta drag the other two which can make it heat up. But if they were fine before probably sweet unless you messed withe the linkages at all they have to be spot on to work.
Other things that will cause it are incorrect timeing and valve timeing. Also you recently asembled it did you? You may of had the the cam timeing out a tooth that can also make it run a little rough aswell as heat up.
I'm not sure if a rich mixture would make it run hot in my experiance its lean that causes overheating.

Yeah i did have to chuck a differnt cam in it and I only approximatly timed the cam to what i thought it was before (its a regrind). You dont have any experance as to dialing in a cam do you? I might just have to have a fiddle with it and see how shes goes. Will check the linkages tommorrow too.

There is a mark on the cam sproket line it up with the key on the crank both the mark and key should be at the top and that should be good. I have a mild street cam in the TG its quite a nice cam got it from kelford camtech.

Ok, so your suggesting I run the cam at stock timing rather then say a few deg btdc. That might very well work. Thanks for the suggestions B/r.

I don't know anything about adjusting cam timeing. Think thats best done with adjustable sprockets. One tooth would be like 5-10 degrees I would think. I had a rally cam in my escort years ago and I ran it standard and that was quite a wild cam.

Sweet, well i think ill put the head on with the cam at standard and see how she goes. I still suspect i might have a few heating issues but i'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks, Matt
