Going to depend on what you want from the car? Stock ride height or lowered, what engine and axle/differential are you using, are you more inclined towards a comfortable ride or something more 'sporty', etc? What dampers (shocks) are you going to be using, inclined or turretted rears, using stock front and rear ARB's, etc? You could try TJ Motorsport, in Wales - www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/They used to carry a range of dampers and springs for the Chevettes and could have springs made to order. IMO, try the stock ones and see what you want to change on them before getting new ones - rate and/or ride height (free length). First, though, I'd be looking at a set of KYB dampers* as I rate them highly. *You can happily use the stock length damper with lowered springs on the front, but the rears will need to be shorter if you intend using lower springs.

Cheers gordo. I got hold of tony at lynchbuilt - he recommended I get some 600lb springs made for the front, not sure about the rear yet, but it needs to be a lot stiffer than it currently is

I'd say 600's were going to be pretty hard for a road car - unless you've added a LOT of weight - however, what suits you will have to be figured out. I can't recall what engine you're using, but for a 1256, cut 1 to 1 1/2 coils off the stock ones and it works very well - esp' with KYBs.

it's got the commodore V6 in it. Car now has uprated Gemini king springs in the front, and RX7 in the rear to cope with the extra torque. I initially tried RX7 lows in the rear, but they were too low. Just waiting for the new rear ones to arrive as I do actually want some suspension travel.

Ah, I take it back, 600's would be a good start point for that extra weight. You'll also need dampers upgraded to work with them.
