That's straight - the offset type has the slot way over to one side. I'll have a look tomorrow.

exelent thanks, Also i just been cleaning up some bits and was sanding down the sump and i was wondering if anyone has put baffels in them in the past? ? as on bumpy roads and high speed cornering the oils just all going to slosh to 1 side

Started making a big wing, baffled sump at one stage, but dropped it. I used to overfill it by a litre, using Mobil1 oil, and that seemed to be fine - the only time I recall ever noticing the warning light coming on was under hard braking (from 145-150kph, I could stop in 1 and a half times the distance between power poles, in the country) and after 30k' or so was wiped off, the light would come on as all the oil ran to the front! Didn't seem to hurt anything, as the bearings would always be perfect on pull down. As for cornering, even with the inner front 5-6" of the ground (saw pictures of it) or driving round other cars on the track, no sign of oiling issues - but as I said, that was a litre overfilled! If you do decide to do something, I'd suggest plating the front part of the main sump, to stop the oil running forward but still allow it to drain into the sump. I'd also recommend making up a plate to bolt it to when welding, to avoid the sump distorting and compromising the sealing.

so you used to over fill the standard sump by that much? .Also what oil do you run in a freshly rebuilt 1256?? i had castrol 20w50 in it when it had a shagged bottom end and from cold at idol the oil psi would be around 90psi

Well, I used to drive it rather hard - cruising speed was flat out, rarely under 130kph - this was pre camera and traffic was a lot lighter. I also used the car for various club events and a bit of club racing at the old Bay Park track and i figured the extra would give a bit more protection - probably wasn't needed but why take the chance? For running in, a good mineral multigrade is as good as anything, then a synthetic is relatively cheap insurance. 90 PSI is damned high - I'd suspect a sticking relief valve in the pump and/or someone had shimmed the spring for more pressure - it's a common move for 'race' engines that see a lot of rpm, certainly more than a relatively stock engine will ever see.

Damn, I forgot to look - I'll see if one's visible right now! Well., i was wrong, I've two straight and one early Chevette/Viva one. 130kph was an easy cruise four up at just under 5k rpm and at times it'd be closer to 160kph and 6k rpm - NOTE, nominal peak power is 58.5 hp at 5600 rpm with peak torque 68lbs.ft at 2600 rpm. Stock gearbox. I found 32PSI all round was a good setting with the OEM 155 tyres, 175/70 on the OEM rims and for 185/60-14's on 6" rims.

They're all brand new and boxed - only unwrapped to check the drives. How does $80 plus P&P sound and you've a choice of the yellow or the blue box?

got a complete motor and gearbox sitting in a wagon if you want to pull them out. Dunno if they run or not, apparantley they were going well before it was parked up in a barn (10+ years ago), the previous owner says the engine was rec'd about then, but that's just from what he said. Make an offer
