Thats a g161 (1600) engined one, and a pretty cool one at that so don't wreck it haha.
The later model ones had g180's and g200's I think.

Hopefully this will be mine, if it doesn't go for too much. I talked to a few guys in the know and they say that its more common for the bottom end to go in these, which will be good because I only want the head. We'll see what happens, its abit of a risk but ohwell. www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=89122399Either way I'll get the head cleaned up and replace parts if required. If its in good nick it will be a slight port and pollish as thats all thats required on these motors. Then a valve grind, putting a slightly more agressive angle to the seats or something like that. Possibly cams but probably not at this stage, because of the interferance issues with the pistons. Anyway, the clean up work was quoted at 3-400 today, which I was very happy with. I can get $400 for my vectra shell from a wreckers and I'll also sell those wheels on. Should be able to get a couple hundred for them so if all goes well it could be up to a grand cheaper than I was planning on.

Well, I bought a mint one with a blown gearbox for $800 a little while back, so no its not really worth it. But when you need something you pay what you have to, right? haha
Yeap, thats the engine. Its not THE engine, the earlier model has the engine everyone else goes on about but this one is just cheaper and easier to get hold of.
I can sell the body for $400 and I'd say I'd be able to get a little bit for those wheels, so hopefully its not that bad a deal.

It's quite common for the hydraulic lifters to play up on those engines - may be a damned cheap fix. What are your plans for the vehicle's instrument cluster? I may be interested in it - if the price is right.

Yeah, I'm getting the head all cleaned up by a guy who's seen quite a few of them, so I'll see what he thinks. I know the guys overseas put solid lifters in, but its done a long way down the line of mods and only when chasing high rpm, so they can't be too bad.
I'm taking the car straight to a wreckers, where he will help me with the motor etc and in return I'm giving him the whole car for $400. I'm not sure how he'd feel about me taking parts such as the instrument cluster but I'll give it a crack.

Yeah, I thought the cally's were modelled around vectra a's so I wouldn't imagine it would work, but I'll see anyway.
