does anyone know what year my chevette hatches are? the one im building had recessed headlights like brads wagon, the doner had the bugeye headlights. i keep finding parts which i assumed to be the same which just arnt and its doin me feckn head in. the latest is the back seat fold down hingey brackety things which of course i only discover after i repaint the metal seat back in gloss black and do a shonky yet styley recover with black shaggy seat cover from supercheap ($20 and cudnt have been better fit for a gem/chevette) anyway jus felt like winging. Just amazed that two cars so similar have different components like that, my good ol mazda familia had mostly the same parts... just a big mind f@#k, gana go cry now, if anyone knows the years holla if ya hear me

There's a thread about this on the chevette forum, you work it out from the vin number. The recessed front is the early one and the other type is the latter model. Cant be Barry Whiteed posting a link, you find it.
Oh yeah i need to give you a call about those parts! I cant belive how early it is.

found some date stamping on the two sets of chevette guards. the car im building (green chevini) has 1979 & car had recessed head lamps and the pale blue doner car with the bug eye lamps has 1980 stamped on top of guard in the channel which bolts guards on and is covered by bonnet. date stamps are visable when bonnet is up, maybe other chevette boys could chek theirs against the year on their rego sticker and see if this date stamping is acurate to the release of the car or if they jus made a bus load of guards and manufactured as necessary?! anyway mite help pinpoint what year, if it is stamped 79 then its probly an 80 i guessin. jus thort it was mildly interesting

Yeap, mine are stamped 4th and 5th of '79, which is just on a year before it was first reg'd in 1980. The lights must have changed to the popout ones in late 1980.

haha like CSI chevini investigators. the guards are identical despite the headlamps, the nose cone too but the vertical steel face the lamps mount to have diff cutouts. all lil bits n pieces chevini geeks find interesting..

Yeap, so you can put the bugeye lights in, but they don't actually bolt up to anything because the steel is a different shape. We could deffinately be Chevette Secret Investigators for sure. Do you know anything about the secret that datsun 1200 motors came factory in the later models?? I'm not sure if its fact or fiction... ooo another program...

Do you think the oposite of chevini is geminette or gemette? They sound crack up. Perhaps your's should be a geminette/gemette tim, because you are putting the gemi front on a chevette. Where as a chevette conversion to a coupe, like tom wants to do would be a chevini
