Is anyone doing rotas at the moment? I'm semi keen to build a nice rota powered chevette or gemini and wondered if anyone had any knowledge to share. Tony has done heaps of them back in the day but wondered if anyone was doing one nowadays. also makes me wonder why people aren't doing them considering they're simple good power engine swaps....perhaps not the most reliable but still

There is a rotary gemini on Trademe at the moment. Have a look at Elky's car on OzGemini, he has a 13b turbo in it (and there is another "sleeper" one in the galleries).

I too am surprised- I think here in NZ there is a big image thing with rotas- either for em or against em. Its a shame really- I get dirty looks from a lot of people when I mention I've put one in my HB Viva. But I only paid $100 for the complete rebuilt engine and g/box etc so it was a no brainer (bought it all cheap in england where they are are dirt cheap) and the chevette I had would do an easy 25mpg. my rx3 did 30! so they aint as thirsty as people say if you cruise. Plus reliability- the last rx7 we had which we trashed and did all the wrong things with like not warming it up as we didnt know any better still did over 200,000 miles on original engine before the tips wore so much it wouldn't start. Thats not too bad I reckon considering how much it got thrashed!!! Anyway- yeah chevettes are awesome with them. Very easy conversion. I have managed to find my build thread on the old chevettes.com forum so here ya go for more info.... www.chevettes.com/oldforum/viewtopic.php?t=11982alex
