My chevette started playing up today when i took it for a drive down to the gasy. The cars pretty much been off the road for the last 4 months.
I took it for a drive from browns bay to whangaparoa a week or so ago twice and it was running mint, then all of a sudden today when i went to chuck some gas in, afterwards the engine started to slowly decelerate and jerk/jump as if it was running outta gas. trying to figure out whats gone wrong...
Its the little 1256cc and all ive done to it is switch to a 28/36dcd carb (rebuilt to suit said engine), new plugs, leads dizzy cap and rotor + oil change and what not.
You guys got any ideas bout what might be wrong? I checked for vacuum leaks but it was sweet and the timings spot on as I changed the belt about a 2 months ago and timed it perfect.
All helps appreciated!

Hopefully it's just the fuel filter, but it would have to be pretty well blocked for that to happen.
I had similar issues on a 1256 once and it was a loose connection of one of the wires inside the dizzy, so perhaps check this. You'd be cruising along and then it would just loose power and slowly die.
Also had this issue on 2 of my other Chevettes too, now that I think of it. One time I came to a stop on the southern motorway and while I was parked up I waved out to someone in a Chevette sedan heading the other way. And another time was in Pukekohe, again it just lost power so I pulled over and after sitting for a couple minutes I started it up again and was fine for the rest of the trip.

Sounds like fuel pump to me. To be perfectly honest Tai, I'd just put a new power train in it I'm still keen on doing a chevette sedan. I've been talking to Tony about making a sedan race car. I think it would look awesome.

Agreed, most likely a dissy problem - I've had the wiring break twice - once the earth strap and once the coil lead. Small chance the advance plate is worn and as it moves it's affecting the points gap which can cause a misfire - that was a b*tch to track down! You can also replace the distributor bushes, they should be easy to find and only a few dollars - I add an additional one in the middle, before fitting, soak them overnight in some engine oil as they're sintered and will absorb it for lubrication.

Yea well im gonna replace the fuel filter tomorrow or friday and see how it is. Could easily be the dizzy ay, didnt think of that.
Its quite weird ay. Started happening during driving but when i park the car up it doesnt jutter, only starts to slowly decelerate.

How do i go about checking the dizzy? Ive got barely any experience with em (just know how to do the average replacement of points cap rotor & setting it). Did once see one taken apart and put together + checked the resistance on the plates but it was very brief.
Will check through my unitec worksheets and track down the dizzy stz.

Bit more detail or phone number would be good - PM if you don't want it public. No promises, but if I can work a few other thing in, over that way, I'll call in.

I can vouch for Gordo if you think he's some kind of pedo nutter. He's been round my house several times....actually quite overdue for a catch up Gordo. I've moved house 500 metres too so don't rock up to old one expecting me to say hi
