im pretty sure people have certed cut springs. As long as they are securely seated I dont see the issue. anyways, thats not what this is about.
been out doing some measuring. its 95ish mm at the cross member which is a tad gay, wanted to keep it above 100. have another set of springs, so might make them half a coil taller then these and stick them in. fronts are still captive(ish) surprisingly, but shocks are Barry Whiteed so will get some new ones, slightly shorter. Also have a decent set of front shocks from parts car which are the right size to keep the rear captive, have just got to get some new bushes for them.
exhaust hangs down and catches on driveways/speed bumps etc so will eventually get it hung up a bit higher
that is all

as is theyre illegal. might be able to cert them but whats the point? just buy proper lowering springs. 4-5 hundy for a cert vs 3 hundy for proper springs. seems pretty pointless to me.

Also, I was talking to Tony, and he reckoned they never shorten or replace bumpstops in their cars!

Also, I was talking to Tony, and he reckoned they never shorten or replace bumpstops in their cars! They're cars are actually not very low. Plus they are set up for speed, as much as no one would admit it, we lower our cars for looks, not functionality. And aftermarket springs are crap. I've bought them a few times for different applications, they often don't lower the car much, have a pathetic spring rate and sometimes are not even captive anyway. You cannot argue that aftermarket springs are the answer in all cases. Don't really want to get into tht though. I always find myself discussing the legality and reasoning behind cutting springs. It's an endless argument really, different strokes etc

Cool man. Just one other thing to be wary of when purchasing new shocks for the front, make sure they compress enough because the aftermarket ones that were in my car when I bought it didn't, and when I went over a big bump, it didn't hit on the bumps, it made the shock bottom out!

Yeah, that's my problems with the GAZs I bought. Have to get them shortened.
And Brad, I'm looking to get some front springs from tony that he says will lower my car even further...

just put the front shocks out of my parts car into the back, seems to work a charm. is captive at full droop so should keep everything in place.
seems funny/weird what you say zep. Mine was definitly touching bumpstops at this height, not sure how low yours is/and tonys is however. cheers
