This is the mega-rust one aye? yep. Megarust gem swapped for tattoos last new year lol... still sitting in my carport. Update: Re: Red Uber Clean wag... Unless something unforseen happens it will be getting torn down this friday for paint... and undergoing a 'panno' conversion. NZ styles steel panels rather than the Oz spec moisture trap fibreglass panels. Done some research, panno's have none punched out windows wheere the frame of the window sits and fibreglass panels that bolt over them... weird. Sounds silly to me, we shall see if flat steel panels look OK though as the fibreglass ones do have a little shape to them. Anyhow the colour, paint has been purchased- went with a dark red mettalic which I think will look pretty sweet. Wanted to stick with some variant of the OG colour. Have a set of TE bumpers and TE grill so will be going for a TE look. As it will be paneled out will need to fit wing mirrors pronto, what do yal think of these: www.drivenperformance.co.nz/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1899Can't decide... better than everything else I have found thus far. Failing that any suggestions? (aside from 'Crazytim please don't panno that wag...') Will be looking for some lowering springs for it ASAP as it is true skyscraper spec at the mo... the 14" wide steel ex aninja and mcqunt/jase/slidenyo will go on it for the time being/maybe forever. Engine bay will recieve some loving/paint. Will do a degrease and dulux resto on the block. Head will be coming off due to fecked spark plug threads. Will likely fit extractors that kahzaki is swapping me gbox bits for depending on how bent they are... seeing as the rest of the car will be in bits. 2 tone brown dash possibly going in place of black one, mainly so its different to green gem. I'm intending to take the daylight hours off work to be workshop slave to save some labour money. Can't hardly wait, is gana be choice! Anyway updates should start flowing thick and fast from friday! This has well and truly smashed my finances for the immediate fture but has been a long time coming, need to improve my corporate image ,majorly!!! Hopefully my mate the painter has the same idea of what I'm after as I do... I don't wanna see unpainted door jams and so on and mismatched reds on the internal trim... this is why I am going to be there to prep all the fiddly bits that may have gone untouched otherwise (due to how tight the budget is lol)

Not sure if it'll work with the gem' setup, but some panel vans were simply done by using steel (alloy?) panels to replace the windows with suitable seals.

Engelmann mirrors Tim and get that glass out mate, it will look awesome as a panel van. If I was doing it I would put a flat skin on the inside, spot welded to the window seam. then I would have another panel with a nice small swage around the edges so the panel stands out like they would normally look on a factory panel van, spot weld that onto the seam from the outside. drill some small holes top and bottom of the inner panel and foam inject the cavity to provide some rigidity and sound proofing. I would be tempted to do the rear hatch panel as well, but that would be pretty hard to do I think. might get branded the sodomy wagon if it was all enclosed look forward to seeing the progress Derek

Will have to do a photo upload/dump... car is stripped to all hell... head off engine, brake booster/lines out, all glass out, loom is in a ball where back seat should be, dash out etc. You get the idea. Rust was found on left side of front screen but hadn't penetrated thru. A little on bottom of back window seal. A little on some of the 4 side windows too... rust repaired at front tween chassis rail and wheel arch. Minor repairs required in rear guards mainly on left side. A few along tail gate window seal and a few holes to plug weld here and there. All going well engine bay will be primed tomorrow and rest of car 1st prime coat on friday engine bay first colour coat friday and ready to reassemble engine bay saturday morning. Head is at Engine place on Henderson Valley Rd... grill is at plastic welders getting crack sorted... alotta balls in the air but will be awesome when done... tomorrows task: ring around for sweet deal on lowering springs, anyone have some?! Anyway learning lots about prep and paint lessons to follow... so stoked : )
