yeah Bulldog, Tony has had a great deal to do with the building of my car. They will be 15x7, i used to have 13s on mine but did so much to the car inbetween changing that it hard to say the difference that just the tyres made but my car hangs on very well! I think going to a 7 rather than an 8 has something to do with the scrub radius when taking a corner, Tony can explain it better but if you go too wide it will not want to turn as good as it could.

Ok, so you guys take racing seriously. Two quick questions,
Why run a brace between the shock turrets at the front because very little or no stress is exerted on the area and it supports no load, it only restrains the top of the shock so it can articulate.
And secondly, hilux diffs are soooo huge and heavy and over-rated for your setups. They will support 400hp but I was warned off using them by several race car builders because of their weight. Is the reason because of the large support for aftermarket parts and variable diff ratios or is there another reason because I thought the sacrifice in unsprung weight wouldn't make that justifiable?

Yeah... they are pretty heavy, but not overly heavy to be honest.I'd imagine a 9" would be heavier. If I was to do it again I would probably have started with a set up that had discs on it to start with. Maybe commodore.
I'm also interested to find out about the strut brace.

Yes, apparently the hilux has an 8" crown wheel so it is still lighter but I'm guessing the LSD gear would add a little more to it.
Its just that in a car thats never likely to put out more than 200-250hp, why step up to that next level and sacrifice so much weight and potential performance?

Hey Mikuni, You are right a sturt brace in the front does nothing. I know the only reason Tony runs one is as the whole of the front of his car in fibreglass and if he ever ended up on his lid theres not much protection for his engine. The hilux diff is a heavy beast but is a lot lighter after removing all the drum set up, they do take up to 400 hp but doing events such as targa you are very likley to get some air time so overkill can be usefull I have built mine for ss2000 and are going to run a 2.0 16v so have to be 900kg this is one reason I went for a strong rear setup but it also keeps my options open as what I can do with the car as I have a long term plan for around 350hp If I was going to stay with the 1600 8v I could have been 640kg so would have gone a much lighter set up. I think before you start to build a race car you need to know what you are going to race it in first, and what you want the end product to be and then build it once.

Hey Dannyboy what is that bodykit? It looks like a mixture of things? HS front guards and spoiler but the rear wheel arches aren't the same as the normal HS? side skirts are HSR by the looks and that hatch spoiler is from something completely different?
I'm still torn between getting 15x7s or 13x8s...the 8s will require a bit more work but I just can't get past how good they look on the HSRs

Awesome danny, thanks for that reply. Answers all my questions perfectly I'm deffinately keen to know when and where you guys are going to be racing. Always keen to talk shop with t-car boys. And remember, oldschool.co.nz is getting taupo track 2 on april 21st, so everyone should do there best to make it along to this fun little event. Its going to be awesome and a decent t-car presence there would just top it off.
