Hi all!
Thought I would throw up a brief thread on my project.
The goal when buying the gem was to find something light and small which would take a v8. I considered various Aussie and chev vehicles in 4/6 cyl guise which also came with bigger v8s because of cost, availability and ease of sourcing parts.
When I started noticing the T platform and reading about how the Aussies have fiddled with the gems I was sold!
I bought this car from Jase after finding it on TM and finding out who he was via OS. Jase is a good bugger, made the purchase easy and is giving with parts and knowledge so it's been win win. He had put the black Mazda 6 steels onto the car and lowered it very nicely. It had a bad starter and no WOF when collected so first stop saw that dealt to which also saw a bunch of nolithane bushes added to the front end.
He had done things properly and because of this the check sheet came back a whole lot better than expected.
I have been daily driving the car for a few months while I had stuff going on at home and had very limited funds to play with... But nutss good now so it's time to start collecting stuff to play with!
First iv added recaro fishnets. Mounted to factory rails using flatbar adaptor plates.
Then I changed to facelift headlights while retaining the pre-facelift clear indicators ( not as simple as it sounds) and from memory I'm currently using the pre-facelift grille that's been cut down to suit.
More recently I have bought these performance challenger wheels in 14". 6" wide front 7" wide rear- not too extreme so should fit well( I haven't had a chance to test fit yet... Now FOR SALE as they won't fit over the brakes I want to run, PM me )
Then I bought these headlights to replace the facelift items. I will have to fill in the square recesses in the bonnet to make it look right.
From a BMW
I bought a spare diff to use for parts ( wil strengthen skinny driveshaft and solid mount tq tube end support bearing)
This weekend I pick up this good running and checked 308.
My car is auto and runs a slightly shorter version of the 308s trimatic. This means the 308s box (should) bolt straight in with only engine mounts needing to be made.
Still needed: radiator, electric fans, exhaust manifolds ( will have a play and see if any available tube manifolds will work), gearbox, tq converter ( car should be light enough that a high stall could be useless) aftermarket pedal box for brake.
Then once the motors in and running-
Conversion to commodore front disks and calipers using 5 stud front hubs from aus. Billet rear axles with large spline from aus. Billet lsd Center from aus. Etc etc.
Then cut some quarter mile passes. Should do high 13s on stock v8. :-)
