Hey guys, this is my Chevette hatch. This is the 1st T-car ive owned, previous rides have been mostly escorts, cortinas and maybe a sneaky morris marina or two. I picked her up off TM after flicking off my dirty old merc v8. She had been off the road since 2004, but run often. she ran sweeeeet, for a couple weeks. then the brakes started to seize. fixed that, then the dizzy cap packed up. fixed that, then the dizzy itself packed up. fixed that, then the dirty bastard dropped the timming chain. so i pulled the motor n box and started to tidy her up a bit. Just deciding on a motor/gbox at the moment. Im looking at something fairly straight forward, something sohc and carby i reckon. any ideas would be great. Attachments:

The paint is getting sad but she can stay that way for now, plus the addition of a few primer patches. Will concentrate on making the engine bay nice n shiny, and making the interior as mint as possible. Picked up a MINT dash for 40bux off a random joker the day i picked the car up. seats are in good nick, door trims arent toooo bad. if you ignore the gaping holes that have been hacked into them for the non-exsistant speakers. Hood trim is mint, and carpet is shot. rotted out from previous cancer by the looks of it. will add some pics when i have a chance..

Hey mate, welcome.
Just have a bit of a hunt around the site. You should be able to find everything you need. You can buy new carpets and most parts are relatively easy to come by still.
The most straight forward engine option is a G161Z, which is a 1600 from a Gemini. This goes in without too much effort, but does need some customisation - again, the forum will answer all of your questions with a bit of hunting around.

welcome. looks good with no shocks and springs. i vote pump the guards and get it rolling that way g series swap is easy- gearbox crossmember is the only custom bit apart from drilling out a couple of holes, and cutting a hole in the tunnel for the shifter. gseries motor and gearbox from a gemini/piazza/rodeo gemini wagon diff and driveshaft (or piazza for disk rears) accelerator cable, exhaust, wiring etc [all the little bits that can add up] most of it should be in my thread. nzgem.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=membcar&action=display&thread=1105&page=7

Like hatches in yellow, chased one a few years back but the chap wasn't ready to sell. There are a few Chevettes converted to G Series engines on this site- I have one as well, good for seeing options as they all a little different. Just off top of head aninja is G200z with Gemini Nikki carb, mine has G200z with twin 40mm IDF's, sheepf-cker is just buying rxdato's estate with G200z running all the factory injection gear. Don't go past perving at Gemini's on this forum or on ozgemini.com too... they may only be a cousin of your car but if going G series there will be many an engine bay pic to inspire you with yours.
Last word of warning, resist the temptation of getting 15 of them- makes it hard getting things done with multiple projects... or is that just me? (I exaggerate, currently I only have 9 lol... want a 2nd one?!)

Hey Guys, made some progress with the chevette over the weekend. Started to de-loom the engine bay and getting it ready for paint etc. Theres been a change of plan the the motor side of things, ive decided to go with the standard 1256 for the moment, as i got given a good condition motor n box over the weekend and the budget is pretty tight at the moment anyway. And this way she will be back on the road alot sooner. sick of looking at the bloody thing sitting in the shed. Anyway, ive run the loom on the inside of both gaurds using some clips i made up that slot into the gap where the body frame and gaurd mate up. Just had to lossen the bolts a touch slide the clips in and tighten again. The fuseable link is now mounted up under the dash. The heater motor wires and wiper wires are hidden inside the heater box. i made up a panel to cover the factory freash air vent in the firewall and run the wires through that. Still abit of work to do but shes coming along. ive added a few pics. Attachments:
