So my mate just gave me a crap load of sound deadening and I still have my old carpet. I'm considering putting this back in as my floor pan is currently bare.
I don't use the car on the track all that much (It's generally a road car) and it's just so damn noisey and HOT with no deadening or carpet.
What would you do?

lay the deadening over light thermoforable plastic so it can be removed and pop rivet it down or just get more horsepower

Carpet and underfelt doesn't weigh much and it's low down - for a mostly road car, I'd fit it.

What is thermoforable plastic?
I hvae 21 sheets of self adhesive deadening. 530mm x 190mm x 1.7mm
Gemininja, you can have what ever is left if I decided to do this.
and mcqunt, I plan for more horsepower, though, in time unfortunately.

shouldnt need thermo unless you have a hot gearbox should you? carpet is more than enough to kill road noise, and if its not then get a louder car or a bigger sterio =D

thermoformable plastic isn't a bad idea. I assume its just a thin layer that will take the shape of your floor plan when a little heat is applied
I far prefer that idea to laying the sound deadening down for good with the self adhesive applied directly to the floor. Just sounds like more hassle down the track when you want to pull it up for what ever reason.
But I would use it for your car. Like you say, 80% road use to 20% track use at best and being turbo you can overcome that small bit of weight easily (compared to NA cars).

The thing is I'm not going to spend any moneys! I have the deadening but do not have this thermoformable plastic you speak of.

Well then just leave most of the adhesive protector stuff on there and just peel off a couple little bits to attach it to the floor, that way it will stay in place well and still be easy to remove later on.

Brilliant plan. I think first though I will remove all the seats and nuts and paint the floor black. POR15? or should I just leave it? I have no idea what I'm doing

im gana steal the idea of bedliner painting the floor of my wag. Saw a chap on oldschool who did this to a rather tasty RX2 sedo. If I was gana lay deadening I'd be POR15ing the floor as if any water got under the deadening at least it has one of the most kick arse metal protectants around doing its thing.
Me going the bedliner route is koz its a work car and carpet would get munted anyway and the bedliner paint will protect and look sweet.

thermoformible plastic is any plastic that can be heated to take a shape and cooled to hold that shape, perspex will do with a heat gun and a wet rag you can stretch it and coolit how you want or theres other more expensive options but thats what i would use
