Both my gems had it there there's a seam right there thats where the water gets in. When you fix it weld the seam up stop water getting in again.

Hell yeah. Driving gems/chevettes is so much fun. I've driving lotsa cars and these always bring a smile to my face more so than anything else.
My gem had rust there once upon a time. Was fixed ruggedly ages ago with a patch but it seems to have held up fine. Check the other trouble spots while you at it aswell, especially that b*stard of a one where the firewall, gb tunnel and floor all meet.

its welded from factory, the rust proofing is nuts, so where the weld is (inside and out) it oxidizes and rusts from the inside, full welding will only help you if you seal/rustproof from he inside, trust me, ive done alot with gems and rust, try all 4 floor pans, heater holes, boot floorpan, sills, you name it!!! My gem is pretty much rust free eh, ive had a gander around it many a time and she looks all good, must be those low quality later model gems eh heheheh Probably has something to do with it being in taupo most of its life, where the nearest salt water is a we while away

Yeah, I've got nuts all rust too. Just started now that the car has been brought from Walkworth to my house, which is next to the ocean. Our cars get salt on the windscreens! I need to invest in a better cover.
