I've hardly seen any early (TX,TC equivalent) Gems around Christchurch but the later rwds seem to be pretty common. See the odd Chevette here and there.

Chevette hatches are quite common i think, I would say gems are also quite common around here. See a few around. Years ago when i was trying to find a good wagon to buy I saw a yellow 2 door chevette coupe (Like the Kadett C coupe shape). I completely forgot about it, but that would be awesome to track down!

I was thinkingn about starting pf50 register, (hehe sorry to the pf60/te onwards boys but there just not as common an the later models), to keep account of all the older gems around. Coupes would be the rearest from what ive seen, would be good to know how many there are out there and what there up to.

I never see any Chevette's up here or PF50's I can say I dont think I've ever seen one up here. There is a cool Chevette sedan I see maybe every few months sorta navy blue low as with 17-16'' evo-r's on it havent seen it for a while now though. There is a couple of granny spec TF-TG's around. Seen this TE at the super market a while back was my cars better looking twin sister old granny with curly white hair probably had it since new!

There are afew around in whangas. I remember you saying that there was a stackedish one for sale down the road from you place and theres a dude up there seth, that has heaps of them. Did you ever see that black with glitter paint chevette that used to park up on mill road? How about that insanely nice newer gem that was gold or what ever?

I'm not too sure about that aye, I'd say they would be closer to equal with sedans. Off the top of my head I can probably think of more PF50 coupes than sedans...

Nah i see sedans around occasionally eh, even when im not looking. Considing i spend a year or so looking for coupes and only found maybe 4 i'd say the sedans are more common. Who knows without the figures though eh

Yeah that stacked one has gone was a sedan. I havent seen a Chevette in months. Yes I know the black hatch with flames ect. My mrs mum used to live at 69a mill road straight across the road from that house.

Has anyone seen that burgandy/purple coupe recently? It was on 17" Centreline mags with a G200 and flamethrower in the exhaust... Last I heard it was owned by a dude called Don who brought it up from Nelson or something, a mechanic or panel beater or something...

Sounds pretty awesome. Whats the flame thrower exhaust like? Does it actually spit flames or is it a brand name or something?
The gem/chevette (kadett c) community is a pretty cool one to be part of. As you say, they are pretty rare in NZ, but even in the rest of the world they seem to be getting a little bit more scarce, and they are still a car that many people appreciate to see around.
There used to be a gem wagon in hams. White with a grey door and a sheriff star on the side I think. The dude came on oldschool for a little while and got in touch with me as he had a couple of chevettes. He actually helped suss me out with my black wagon. Good dude.
I've also see a white wagon in hams with a massive bonnet scoop. Was set up for some sort of dirty great engine but was a little rough, and we looked at an fj20e chevette coupe that was deregd. Was going to buy the running gear instead of mucking around with my twincam but it was just done too rugged. The dude couldn't sell it for $500.

Yeah it had a sparkplug in the exhaust, looked awesome I used to have a list of all the Gems and nuts I saw around, plates and all in case I wanted to hit the owners up. Not sure If I still have it tho will take a look.... Nope its gone, must've deleted it on a computer cleanup mission. That FJ20e Chevette sounds cool, for $500 would have been a steal!!
