Looking great man. Those wheels came up sweet.
You'll be all good with the guards too, I had way less clearance than that with my 8's. What size tyres you going with? May need to stretch them slightly.

Very nice work there. Have you considered going dry sump? It'd take care of the clearance problem, look pregnant dogin' and may not be much more expensive than the fabrication work if you take into account the time factor. May find something at a good price from the UK. [edit] Have you looked at modifying the crossmember/fabricating a new one? IIRC, there were waterpump variations with a short snout but they may be hard to find now. Engine shouldn't be that much heavier than the original Gemini - in the MGB, they were 50lbs lighter than the 1800 original. They're a relatively low reving engine, what rear end/ratio are you looking at running? Front end on those is pretty strong, however you may wish to consider plating the vulnerable areas, as per a rally Chevette.
ciao
[edit] There were a few Chevette/Rover cars built up back in the day - you may find something on the 'net.

What are those flares I been considering it lately. I'm using a 4.1:1 Gear set for my setup gives me pretty much 190km at 5800rpm.
