I want to widen some steels for my sedan. Ideally I would buy some 13x7 centreless rims from TWL, take them to steelie gears and get my centres put in them. From here I would get the centre HPC'd black and the outter HPC'd "chrome" (like what lofreq on oldschool got). I'm unsure of how good this will work and the price will be $300 (rims) + $200 (widening) + $600! (HPC).
The reason I want this is because I want to put white walls on and have my chrome hubcabs in the middle still, giving the car a nice original look. I can't think of what else will work, other than having a black centre and a shiny lip/dish.
TWL can't get 13x7 centreless rims till june, so I asked tony from steelie gears if he thinks cutting and welding 6 inch rims would work and he said NO!
So, I begun to ring around and I can actually get 13x7 inch modgies for $800. They are even in 4x100 stud pattern rofl. Obviously I will hack the modgy centres out and put in some powder coated black steel centres, but I'm wondering if this is the best option I have?
Does any body else have any other suggestions?
Failing this I will probably just clean up my standos and get white walls. It will be boring, but ohwell. Will save me $1000!! haha

So you are planning on using GL spec wheels? and putting those ugly ass hubcaps on (dont like them cause of the "bump" in the middle) would look awsome/fully rancid deep dished with blacked out centers and polished "lips"

Yup, thats what I'm planning. I think it will look so cool with no centres that I'll leave it like that for a while, but with white walls on the centres will belong.

Hrm, I think you should just wait! It'll be cheaper in the long run and give you the look you really want. Do you have some kind of deadline?
Also, this TWL, do they have a website or something? What other size rims do they do, anything 15" x7 or 8?

Perhaps using the already chromed rims will be the look I really want and may not be more expensive in the end? I'm not sure. I want it to be soon because I'm not planning on keeping the car for ever. Yeap, TWL does 15x8 but nothing larger. Suss them out here www.twlnz.co.nz/home or on yellow pages and make sure its all good to get them, then ring CaM and get him to buy them for trade price and probably get them send straight to steelie gears in preperation for your centres of choice.

Yeah I hadn't considered them for frieght reasons. What a fool I am. He reckons $30 to hamilton and I just have to suss a cheap price down there. $260 widened so thats pretty awesome! I think I will go with that and worry about the finishing after.

Hrm, I just need to be sure that my rims wouldn't hit anything like brake calipers and nuts. How do you guys sort out your offsets?

Make sure the rim fits on the car first. If it does them you're sweet. We're only widenning them outwards after all. If you want to go wide, like 9's or 10's then you'll need to start worrying about inside clearances to steering components etc, but for us its just about the show really.

Yeah, I'm still unsure about if I want to do this. Fully was keen, then came home and saw my rims and was like OH BOE

Hell yeah, just use those mean konig's untill you need something wider. Those wheels are fuking awesome, I wouldn't waste the money (and time) on wide steels if you don't need to.

Personally dislike the smoothies, But I do like mini moons with trim rings and a coloured center... Not sure about lakes on a Chevette, I prefer that type of thing on something pre -50's...
