Yes I had seen all of that on Ebay!
Do you know Dave from the Vauxhall Club, he has a HB, HC Viva's and also a Chevette with a 2.3 from memory? Here in chch. I know of a Piazza thats parked up in Canterbury - opposite a pub.
The Gearbox you have from memory is what you can use with a Ecotec or Redtop Vauxhall/Opel engine? (twin cam vectra etc) G200 would be ok, but if you're really wanting it to move along I'd recommend any twincam..
Piazza Diff will go in, but need to move the trailing arm mounts in 20mm either side, and swap the panhard mount over. - Ive done this to my gemini Wagon - you're more than welcome to come look at some point. (Plus my Chevette sedan)
I happen to have a spare G Series 5 speed sitting here too I was given...

Cheers for the advice - it is Chris isn't it? I bought a 1256 motor off Nick about 2 years ago to cannibalise. would be keen to catch up with you at some stage - have a look at your cars etc - swap notes. Im up in Woodend so not far from Chch.
A mate of mine (who has nothing to do with Chevettes) mentioned he knew a guy Dave Turner in Canterbury who collected Vauxhalls - would that be the guy from Vauxhall club maybe?
I didn't realise the piazza diff needed that much mods. Did know abut panhard mount swapover, but didn't know about the trailing arm mounts. Do you need to move the trailing arms points on the axle itself I presume - ie. not the mounts to the body?
Do you know whos selling the car in Rangiora at the moment?
Will have the doors and guards off my car this weekend to see how bad the rust situation is....
Yeah the gearbox I have apparently bolts onto the back of a redtop or ecotec motor to make it RWD.
Bought a back issue of NZ classic car mag the other day as it has a feature on Chevettes from about 2007. Featured a number of the guys who I recognised their cars from this forum! Good article.

Two of them! Whats the deal with the second one?
Chris yes.
No mods needed to the body if you do the panhard and trailing arm mounts properly. Could be turner but I dont really know, he lives in Bishopdale area..
No don't know about the one for sale in Rangiora sorry.
Absolutely, no problem to come around, daylight is probably better

Yep - 2 cars. Red one is roadgoing. Bought it with seized motor and had it rebuilt. All original except for the rims. Im keeping it that way. Other maroon one was bought as a potnetial motor donor but decided to save it and make it a project car. Only just getting round to starting on it.
Got the guards etc off now, and all the sound deadening material removed. Not looking good - theres plenty of rust.
All the usual areas - under the battery, washer bottle etc. Boot area. Bottom of the guards are fully rotten. Firewall is rusted at the panel joins. Even the inner wheel arch is rusted through under the battery area. Amazing what you find when you go prodding. It didnt look too bad from the outside.
so project will be on a bit of a go slow while new metal is installed. might keep my eye out for a better hatchback shell...
Now im worried about whats hidden behind panels on my red one...

I remember taking the inner guard flaps out to fix the aerial on my sedan, was full of wet dirt/gunk/road grime - can see why they rust out. So I cleaned it all out and put the inners back in..

Good day today. Got more of the car stripped, panel beated some minor crash damage on the front valance. Took the engine and gearbox out tonight.
In the next couple weeks i will try and hang the 2.3 motor and gearbox in the hole to see how its likely to go in. Will prob use the CF bedford 4 speed initially. Stupid design though - has the gear lever hanging off the side of the box so the lever and selector etc wont fit into the tunnel. I will need a linkage to make it mount onto the rear of the gearbox. The sportpart manual shows it like this, so presumably some old vauxhall car had this setup - will just have to try find one. also according to sportpart you need a victor bellhousing or the clutch fork fouls the tunnel. Might look at hydraulic setup.
Gonna treat myself to a mig welder and get stuck into some rust repairs soon. Advic i have been given is to go for proper argon gas setup rather than gasless - better for thin metal apparently.

Haha i took about a whole bucket full of dirt out of my guards too. It is a bad design - just builds up in there and sits permanenetly wet. No wonder the gaurds are rotten. Im going to seal the crap out of it before i put guards back on.

Why not run the ZF 4 speed from the CF bedfords? they're a very compact little gearbox, very very lightweight and gear lever & selector is ontop..
