Ok, so it wasn't an accident really, I was jealous of Brad's uber-coolness rolling around in THE 80's cheese wedge, so just had to get one myself. This will officially be the missus's car, she better look after it (it's mint as, 82,000kms from new, no rust anywhere, drives like new... well drives like a new 80's car anyway ;D). Here's some pics off the trademe ad...

Oh I've seen this briefly in the flesh! very nice car indeed. Veerrrrry shineeey. I can't beleive you also have a missus that would drive (or be seen) in a piazza. They are hard to come by. How much did you get it for? Hopefully not too much, the guy was asking 6grand then he dropped to 4 5 after realising he was dreaming a little. Piazza Forum. www.isuzupiazza.com/forum/

Nah my missus loves 80's retro stuff like this, her last car was an '82 944 in equally as mint condition (I have had to explain that this is no Porsche though... ;D).
It is veeeery shineeey, as you say, mainly because it's been polished once every couple of weeks for the last 22 years.
I got it for $4k, which I think is fair, especially as it has had about $1800 spent on preventative maintenance in the last year. It's very nice, but it's not a $6k car...
Now I just have to sell the Subaru to liberate some cash to finish the Chevette, then it will be t-car heaven at my place.

Even though you fail because you own a subaru you are nearly my new hero, as you are selling the subaaru to fund a chevette build and to help purchase a piazza. Thats pretty much moving forward with life aye!
lol
This car is only the sohc version aye? Thats so unfortunate, purely because it would have been fantastic to see a twincam or turbo model in this condition. The more performance oriented models always seem to be thrashed, due I think to the fact that they are a cheap and relatively powerful rwd vehicle.

Thats pretty much moving forward with life aye! I fully admit the Subaru was a mistake, in fact 2 days after buying it I was driving through Auckland and turned to my missus and said 'Sorry honey, could you remind me again exactly why I bought this fecking car?'. So I am trying to make up for the error of my ways... ;D Yeah just an SOHC of almost no reviness. I tried getting to the redline last night on the way home from picking it up, got to about 5k rpm and just gave up. I would have loved it to have been a twincam, but my missus doesn't care and it is her car.

5000rpm sounds about right for a standard G200z tho. That looks nice man, I'm slightly jealous

Redline is 6 1/2 or somewhere about there, but it would take some commitment to get there...

I remember I took one of my twincam piazzas to redline a couple of time in the short time I owned it. It went up ok but didn't do a whole lot once it got there. I grabbed the next gear and it was away again though.
I was always a little confused at how everyone says these engines love to spin but I guess they are speaking in comparitive terms with other late 70's singlecam engines.

Yeah I guess compared to something like a standard Cortina Pinto they are ok, but I'd never say it was rev-happy.

They have pretty decent ports and big valves but then they went and put an AFM about the size of a 50c piece on there! My gems' old engine never really went past 5800-6k, even with 40mm webers, a cam and a ported head. Sweet Piazza though, I seen an older lady driving one around here sometimes and its super mint

Well that was fun... Missus had been randomly stabbing at the various starship controls around the dash, while out for a decent drive this evening, and had turned the aircon on. Aircon pump waited about 10 minutes and then promtly siezed. Smoke and even a few little flames later (luckily with the bonnet up at this point) and all is back to normalish, as long as no-one touches the aircon control...

hahaha jeeze, the joys of owning a piazza aye!? I never thought someone would be able to get flames from an a/c unit.

Yep, the fun begins ha ha...
There's some lovely scortch marks around the pully and the belt is definitely not it's best (will take it off tonight). Good thing it's coming up to winter, thus the aircon won't be required for a few months and I can figure out the cheapest way to fix it.
Having thought about it though, was stupid of me not to tell her not to turn the ac on, as I knew it was out of gas and rule of thumb is never run a pump 'empty'. I was going to get it re-gassed, just now I'll have to replace the pump too.

I've got pump off a twin cam, not sure if its the same or not but you can have it for free/postage price if you want?
